Why are we using top 10 wins vs Miami (2018) and Auburn (2018) as stat padders?

Let me preface this by saying Orgeron has absolutely won me over. I wasn't a fan of the hiring process, but whatever the hell happened, it worked out. He made some excellent hires, recruited a damn good QB, a damn good K (the one us a bunch of games last year), and has not done anything during the game to screw anything up.
I just don't understand why the media is throwing the 7-3 vs top 10 teams stat around. It's a little ridiculous to me, to be honest. Miami and Auburn in 2018 should not qualify as a feather in Orgeron's cap. I've seen excuses ranging from:
- They were top 10 when LSU played them, and the pressure of a top 10 match-up should count.
- Top 10 matches should carry weight, regardless if they finish with a winning record
- LSU broke them and that's the reason they didn't finish in the top 10
To also exclude a top 10 loss to Florida because they were ranked 22 at the time is a little odd as well
1. During the 2018 season alone, 20 different teams appeared in the top 10.
2. During the 2017 season, 18 different teams appeared in the top 10.
3. 14 teams have already appeared in the top 10 in 2019 and the season isn't halfway over.
4. LSU is 2-4 during the '16 - '18 seasons vs top 10 teams since Orgeron took over. The Florida win puts Orgeron and LSU at 3-4 vs top 10 teams since Orgeron took over (Based on current rankings*)

Yeah we dont' need it
THIS YEAR
we have wins over 2 teams that are currently top 15
The only other team that has played 2 top 15 teams is Texas and they are 4-2.
Edit: Auburn has played 2 and is 1-1
Texas A&M has played 3 and is 0-3
2nd Edit: Auburn is 1-1
Lets just say we are the only team with 2 top 15 wins.

LSU easily has the best resume on the season. Agreed

I mean, it's not really all that meaningful a bit of trivia either way.

aTm has played Clemson, Auburn, and Bama. I’m pretty sure they are all top 15

Top10 wins should be ranking at the time of the game.

You are what your record says you are. Nothing more. Nothing less.

When the media discusses ranked wins they always use at the time of playing rankings, I dont agree with it either, but it's what they do. I guess because in current year they can only use current rankings, but if putting in previous years I would always use end of season rankings there.

So much effort for such a shite post.
Get over it, things are going well. Enjoy it, stop trying to either annoy people or being a pussy in general.
If you play a top 10 team.and win, it's a top 10 win. Simple. It won't change, certainly not because you're secretly gutted O is working out.

Can’t count a loss to Florida because they were 22 at the time. Ended up top 10
Can count a win against a Miami team that didn’t go bowling and an auburn team that didn’t finish top 10

Why are you throwing insults? Because I’m providing stats you don’t agree with?

That’s about as strawman as strawman gets, no?

I agree with the OP, and it's not just about LSU.
I don't like when ANY team claims a big win over a team that was highly ranked when they played them, but later exposed as a fraud. These stats should only apply to where a team is ranked at the END of the season, because that's an accurate barometer.
Hypothetical: what if we played the no. 1 team the first game of the year, and won. That team then went 0-12 for the season. WOuld we still claim we beat a no. 1 team? I sure as hell wouldn't - it's nonsense.

Thanks for bringing that up. I needed a good laugh.
They got curb stomped in all 3 games.

You can back up pretty much any troll with a stat.
You're points and argument are of no use. Its meaningless, you're just trying to agitate.
Enjoy the present and all the wins.
Peace man.

Not when you exclude losses to teams that actually ended top 10
Because the media wanted Miami to “be back” so bad they ranked them top 10.. nah.

Because you have to set the goalpost in place and not move it...as long as everyone understands what the stat means (top 10 at the time of the game) then you can use it as a measurement.
If not you could have beat a team ranked 24 in week 2 who "figured it out" and finished the year ranked in the top 10. Or you could have beat a team who was ranked #8 in week 2 and then they lose their QB and best defender to injury and end up #18.
It's just a stat that illustrates how a team performs in "Big Games"!

so using your logic we didn't beat the #1 team in 1997 when we beat Florida, 28-21?

I am enjoying the present
This season kicks arse

No dissenting views allowed. It's the snowflake culture.
