What about the two balls in the dirt that he should have caught? If he’s the best in the country those plays have to be made even though the throw should have been better

What about the 3 or 4 plays that he caught the ball but it pulled him off the bag..... does he need to make his legs longer?

Merrifield is the guy at 3rd, I cant explain last night but the guy won JUCO national defensive player of the year last year.

Merrifield predominantly played 2B in juco.

Doughty is a big league 3B.

That should be a pretty easy switch

Nobody said he was the best in the country, just that he doesn’t suck like some people are suggesting.

I agree Doughty was solid at 3rd last year. Merrifield may be more comfortable at 2nd so switching would make sense. I’m sure CJJ will get it figured out one way or the other.

Only idiots are shitting on Morgan. They need something to complain about, if its not him then it will be Coach Johnson's fault. Its a never ending cycle. Sometimes players/coaches deserve to be criticized but Morgan's defense is not one of them.

They’ve never tried to field a short hop on wet turf

Tech made it look fun.

To me it looked like they came to play. They looked rumpled, disheveled and homely and they looked liked they wanted nothing better than to beat LSU. I think they bought into an underdog narrative and were really ready to beat what they considered the golden boys of Louisiana baseball and make a point.

I want to see who JJ puts at 3rd. Berry isn’t the guy and Merrifield doesn’t look comfortable there. I agree that moving Morgan to OF is something to experiment with.

If only there was a guy who could play third for us, maybe like, uh, last year's third baseman?

Looking back to last year, I had fogotten about that. What the hell made PM put a pitcher in on third base? Were we that depleted of infielders? Or was that just PM?

Any player on the roster can catch good throws. Great first basemen can dig out the bad throws. Yes, it was one game in bad weather….on turf, but he simply didn’t look comfortable going down to make digs

Careful, the crazies came after me last night after I pointed this out.

I’m sorry, but a GOLDEN GLOVE CALIBER first baseman has to be able to dig those out.

Two big take aways from the game: (1) too many errors against a very good team; and (2) our top four batters combined for 1 hit. Trey Morgan's defense wasn't the problem last night.

THIS. You can't give a good team 4 outs in multiple innings, and your top 4 hitters have to put the ball in play...especially with RISP. We'll get better.

Primarily because his body language last night was atrocious. I agree that he could've picked one or two of those balls, but the rest were on the rest of the infield. Even so, Tre's body language sucked. I cant say mine would've been any different in that weather.

While true, your middle infielders need to have chemistry, and since you know Doughty is gonna be in the lineup every day, you want to keep him at 2nd rather than switching him back and forth from 3rd. Which should tell us that Merrifield hasn’t established himself as an every day guy just yet. He certainly wasn’t in the starting “1st team” lineup in the spring scrimmages every day. They want to keep getting Berry some work at 3rd for one, but not have to reshuffle the infield in case his (Merrifield) bat doesn’t play against the better pitching we’ll face.

I am a staunch believer that Berry is a liability that can’t be hidden no matter where he plays in the field and will inevitably be exposed and embarrassed unless JJ concedes and puts him at DH. I wonder what he promised him as far as how much time he’d get in the field.

It’s the rant, what do you expect. You know the only thing that makes them happy is a perfect season consisting of these 3 things…….

1. Undefeated perfect season
2. National Championship
3. Fire the coach
