Why are LSU fans so afraid to demand elite QB play?

Why are so many of you content to (and are almost gleeful in some cases) to accept a "game manager"? Unless we put a historic defense on the field this type of strategy won't lift LSU's recent level of performance.

If we don't put a historic defense on the field we likely aren't going to win a championship

Should we ask more out of our QBs? Of course

Do you need a lottery pick QB to win the CFP? Not really.

Some guy no one was expecting to start is now tRant's frontrunner and looked "damn good" while throwing for less than 50%. Our fanbase is broken.

this shouldn't be true though. good coaching/recruiting on the offensive side of the ball should be able to take pressure off the defense. is it so wrong to ask the offense pull more slack some years? you can make the cfp with an offensive minded team led by a great qb that doesn't have an elite defense.

Why should the fans have to?

Elite QB play is a good thing. Having a high-powered offense with more than one dimension is a good thing. Why should any decent coach need to be convinced of that?

These are questions I've been asking since 2009.

Because the overwhelming majority are bashful and afraid to express opinions about LSU football. That's why we never hear (or see on this board) concern expressed about QB play.
Your prescient post is the first time anyone really thought about it...

I hate to burst the collective bubble of those who have high expectations for this season, but we're going to need elite QB play if your expectations are going to hold true. Those of you who think we'll win 10 games with the offense we saw in the spring game are delusional. I see 7 wins and 5, albeit close, loses. The defense will keep us in every game.

"demand"?!?!

When are LSU fans going to learn they hold no power when it comes to decisions in the athletic department?

More importantly, how are our coaches incapable of developing the talent we have into competent QBs?

Why do so many fans not understand how difficult it is to find what the Rant would consider an Elite QB?

We don't even demand good coaching. Why would we demand good QB play?

fanbase before spring:

brennan is going to open up the offense and will be a playmaker.

after spring:

forget all of that. all we need is a game manager.

i'm just curious why our fans always fall back to the old game manager strategy. is it because it's familiar? they don't want to get their hopes up? did les miles really do that much of a number on our fans?
