LSU woldn't be spending $10M this year, or any year, to fire MM. His buyout would be spread across 3 years. It also has offset clauses if/when MM gets another job. Given he is 47 years old, it's likely he would get another job within the next 3 years.

But even if you don't fire MM, it's not like the expenses of basketball go away. LSU will have a team next year that has to have a coach...and players. Plus, ALL of the football expenses will still be owing. In fact, they will probably be greater next year due to market inflation (assistant coaches salary and NIL). LSU isn't really "saving" much of anything by retaining MM. It would just be delaying the inevitable to be in the EXACT SAME SPOT next year at this time. Only now the list of potential candidates to replace him would be different and likely more expensive.

LSU made an awful hire with MM. It sucks, but it's the reality. It's going to have to be addressed at some point soon. So do you do it now, even though you don't love the idea of paying the cost? Or do you do it later, with the same financial issues largely in play, all while allowing the revenues decrease and potential for increase revenues unnecessarily stall.

If cost savings is the only factor, then commit to MM for 3 years. Don't allow him to hire anyone to replace the two assistant coaches whose contracts expire this year, and give him very little NIL. Resign yourself to being the worst program in the SEC and having the worst attendance in the league for another 3 seasons. Take every measure possible to reduce overhead with no consideration for results. Otherwise, waiting a year just for the sake of waiting a year makes no sense whatsoever.

Neither are you are fan, nobody that truly backs P&G MBB program can realistically give any backing to what has become of our MBB.
If McCantWin was your Doctor you would be dead.
Instead he’s our Coach and the MBB program is dead.
The only reason for this is because of individual hate for WW and the fear that the vast majority of MBB fans want him back.
