I agree. Not saying he's not a great coach but I think he'd be a boom or bust type of hire for LSU. I'd rather us hire someone with a decent P5 background already.

Bill O'Brien is my answer as well.

Judging from the thread, only Nick Saban seems to be the coach who would be accepted by the fan base. Scott Woodward has his work cut out for him.

It's really a weird year/time period for coaches. There are way fewer big names than in the past it seems.
Freeze, Urban, Kiffen (to a lesser degree) are just trashy and give the program a bad look.
BOB is a total a-hole who I seriously doubt can recruit or judge talent.
Dabo is relies on elite coordinators and his fake jesus schtick is annoying.
Brian Kelly is a dick with baggage but may be ok.
Napier has question marks for me. Asa Cajuns fan, I don't think he's a good in-game coach - but that can be improved (see Andy Reid). He makes some highly questionable decisions. But he can build a program and lead.
Aranda I love. He would be my top choice. He just needs a great OC.

Plus, Clemson has had the luxury to play in a TERRIBLE conference with no real challengers.

So have Miami and Florida St., which were previous powerhouses ( Clemson has never really been) and should have been able to rebuild and yet they haven’t stepped back into true prominence, why? Because they haven’t gotten a guy who can build a program from the ground up and sustain it and that’s what Dabo has done. He doesn’t even have to totally rebuild at LSU, he just needs to transform them, the foundation is there, the talent and self recruiting of the type of program and facilities are in place.
People discount him because of the weak conference and yet he has won multiple times at the highest level when people didn’t think they belonged. I’m not saying he’s the godsend coach of a Saban but he has the core ingredients to be successful where ever he coaches.
I understand the concerns of translating to the SEC, just in my opinion, you take that chance. He’s proven at the highest level ( power 5 school ), he can manage and lead a huge program and he can win it all. Who would be your first pick? I’m just curious, I do think there are others that could possibly be successful too.

I think urban would do well but with some of the baggage he’s had at previous programs, I would steer away from him and kiffin because of similar issues going on now at LSU and the bad look it has projected upon the university.

Kiffin. Would be a nightmare.

Whichever coach Tiger Ree wants…that’s the one I don’t want.

Jimbo would easily be the worst hire

Kiffin…
He is a puss like Herman and I will not forget how he left Tennessee high and dry. Low budget.
