A month ago, former LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman revealed that Steve Spurrier had been offered the job as HC after Nick Saban left for Miami (as reported by ESPN on Sept 26, 2016) - quote:

* Bertman liked the idea of hiring Steve Spurrier if Saban left, but Spurrier was impatient and accepted the South Carolina job in November, a month before Bertman hired Miles.

(Source: LINK)

Today on Finebobble, Steve Spurrier said he did interview for the HC job, but didn't make it to the "2nd interview" because he's "not good at interviewing".

I doubt anyone cares, but thought it was interesting

.(and sorry, I hit the dang 'enter' button by accident too early)

I assume he's talking about Bertman's remarks on Spurrier expressing interest in the LSU job back in 2005.

Spurrier took a job right before Saban left

Spurrier wanted the LSU job when it was given to Mike Archer. We wouldn't even interview him. A few weeks later Bill Arnsparger left LSU to become Florid's AD. He immediately hired Spurrier as their head coach.

I beleive Skip wanted to interview SS but couldn't till NS made an official decision, had a deal made with USCe before Nick left.

Yes,we did. Alabama,Southern Cal and Texas also had openings and they didn't even give him an interview.

Where do some of you get your information? Spurrier became Duke's head coach in 1987 after Steve Sloan resigned to be Alabama's AD. Spurrier coached Duke for three years after Arnsparger became Florida's AD.

But if three years = "immediately" to you, knock yourself out.

That's what I've heard too, which is why I found Spurrier's comments interesting. Of course, Finebobble turns around and acts like LSU was retarded for hiring Mike Archer over HBC.

TWO completely different time-lines on Spurrier: In the Mid-80's after Arnsparger and after Saban left for Miami.

If NS hadn't taken so long to accept Huizenga's offer, we could've had him instead of Schembechler............

Sorry. You're right; however, the measurement of time is a "man made" phenomena thereby making it irrelevant.

Arnsparger left in 1986.

It was more than that. Spurrier accepted the job before we even played our last regular season game against Ark. It was a month before Saban officially left.
