Yeah...not so much.

That is a pretty weak field. Kansas St is picked to finish last in the Big 12. Nevada is picked to finish 9th (of 11 teams) in the MWC. Rhode Island is picked to finish in the bottom 1/2 - 1/3 of the A-10. The best team LSU may play in the entire tournament will likely be their second round opponent (either WKU or Akron).

WKU is always a solid team and this year they are playing a 7'5" center. Tulane (you failed to mention) has three solid wins. Cherry picking the worst teams in a tournament that LSU may not even play is silly. This is a solid tourney for LSU considering this team is still learning to play together.

Not a super impressive field but Kstate, WKU and Rhode Island usually have pretty competitive teams. I'm actually kind of surprised Rhode Island and Kstate are matched up in the first round.

And I said the best team LSU may play in the entire tournament is their second round opponent WKU or Akron

They've beaten UMBC, McNeese St. and Charleston Southern. Not exactly a murderer's row there. Tulane looks to be improved. They may finish in the top half of the AAC. But NONE of the teams in the field (besides LSU in some places) were projected in the preseason to be NCAA Tournaments teams. That's not to say 1 or 2 of the teams in the field won't eventually make it in March, but RIGHT NOW, approximately 2 weeks into the season, this looks to be a really weak field.

That's not trying to be unreasonably negative. That's just reality. It doesn't mean I'm not interested to see LSU play, or that they can't use this tournament to get better. It's not not a great field relative to many other Thanksgiving tournaments.

Good, this is a real double-elimination tournament and not just playing two games.

from the looks of this bracket, if you win your first game and lose your 2nd, you end up with 1 loss and only play 2 games. which i wouldn’t consider a real double-elimination

Really want that Tulane matchup

Tulane is going to be really good this year. Would potentially be the best early OOC team lsu would play

You should be more excited about LSU's opening game vs. Illinois St with Seneca Knight having the opportunity to exact revenge on the program that basically relegated him to to the end of the bench. If nothing else, he is well traveled. This is his 4th school in 5 years

I wonder if WKU still has the 7'5" center.

Played in their last game. 11 rebounds and 8 blocks.

Those teams play in the 3rd place game at the bottom, so they get 3 games. That said, it’s not a true double elimination since 2nd, 3rd and 5th will end with one loss.

When you study Karate, you dont begin by picking a fight with Chuck Norris...even if Chuck is 80 years old.

Small steps for this program. We need to learn to walk again and I am all for getting this program experience. We are not competing for an SEC Title this season but watching this team grow and learn is imperative for the next 2 seasons.

Yeah, you’re correct. Looking at it closer, it’s not a real double elim tournament because no one climbs out of the loser’s bracket.

Looks like everyone is guaranteed two games and you play three if you reach the championship game.

But yeah, I’m glad it’s more than just going there to play two pre-determined teams.
