At least Tulane is FBS. Playing Sam Houston State actually hurts LSU

I have always said that we have nothing to gain by playing them and this is still true. But, when I was growing up, LSU-Tulane was the big rivalry in La. Now we have no natural rivalry. Ala. and Auburn have each other as do Ole Miss and Miss St. A&M's rival will always be Texas even though they don't play anymore. The Boot doesn't do it for me. I still get a little extra fired up for LSU-Tulane week if only for old times sake. I would like to play them every now and then in Tiger Stadium and on our financial terms.

we don't owe them shite. we've been filling that Dome and they have been making plenty of money off of us.

it'd be a fun road trip for me, but pointless for the program.

ive always pulled for tulane, but its hard to with all the missteps their administration has always taken. pass up a chance to play for natty in the 20s. leave the sec. dont offer marshall faulk to play rb, dont hire rich rod. it goes on and on.
that said, i would like to see them get attendance up and win on a regular basis (playing gt and duke are steps in the right direction) so they can get the guys that dont come to lsu instead of em leaving state to play for mstate, ole miss, etc. hell, just look at sec rosters and you can see guys from louisiana playing that didnt get a chance to come to lsu (or knew they wouldnt get to play much). tulane has the potential to join the acc or big12 one day, its a stretch, but its possible.
as far as playin em every year? na, its gotta be in tiger stadium. i guess we owe em a home game, but it serves no purpose to play at the dome and certainly not in yulman. honestly, they need to start winning ball games every year and get their recruiting on par with mid level power 5 teams, gettin curb stomped by lsu every year wouldnt help that.

Would love to play them. Much better than continually playing the St Michael's Special Schools of D-1AA.

frick Tulane
Let them stay in the shitter. Playing them gives them credibility. We gain nothing playing them.

I wish we could play Washington @ Washington every year! Best trip EVER!

It makes sense, if not Tulane then schedule another game in the dome every year. Great economic impact toward the city and gives LSU fans that do not live in the BR area a reason to spend a weekend here. Hell, schedule it a Saturday before a home Saints game. I realize limited seating would be the biggest issue in hand but at the end of the day it will be a sought after ticket and tons of money rolling into the most eclectic city in Louisiana. If they can find a way to match and pay LSU what the school and city of BR makes on any giving game day no problem in my eyes.
The Dome is good enough for a BCS game why not one LSU game every year?

Sure - easy D-1 win every year.
Good way to build NOLA recruiting base.

the only reason it started back up was when they made a 12th game a permanent thing and it could not be a home game every year lsu made the deal with Tulane ..
btw good luck to Tulane , im not a hater and I wish them well .... the best thing they could have done is build the on campus stadium ...
the fact is it was like a home game for lsu even though we were playing in the dome lsu got the majority of the $$$$..
the game sucked and that 10 am kickoff was horrible ...
lsu found it was more of a benefit to play the neutral site kickoff games and got out of the deal ...
no way lsu should play Tulane unless its in TS.

This. There are so many reasons to do this. If we weren't scheduling any cupcakes every year, it would be different. Drop Sam Houston or Miami Ohio and add Tulane. The SOS argument holds no water. It would be so easy to bring in all of the New Orleans area recruits and really put on a show. It could alternate home and dome. That's about as easy a road trip as you can get, and as someone else said, a good excuse to schedule a weekend in New Orleans every other year, especially if scheduled in conjunction with another N.O. event that weekend. We could even alternate it with a home/away season opener, so at least one is in Tiger Stadium every year to balance the schedule instead of these BS "neutral site" games, which feel more like NFL than college.
As far as helping Tulane, LSU will never have anything to worry about there. If Tulane improves enough to make it somewhat interesting, it helps LSU too. It gives the rivalry more exposure. Plus, I don't see Tulane ever seriously competing for our top targets, but it might be nice to see some of our second tier talent land at Tulane instead of other SEC schools.
I just don't get all of this in state hate. Some Saint's fans hate LSU fans, Tulane, ULL, whatever. I understand passionate fans. I just don't get all of the hate, especially when, for the most part, these teams are not usually competing at the same level.
I know, TLDR. Just the way I see it.

No.
I would like to see LSU & Tulane both do well but they're two completely different programs. Tulane now has a beautiful, appropriately-sized stadium and will hopefully build a quality program.
LSU gains nothing by playing the Green Wave. There is no rivalry...there is no sense in giving up another home game...there's no financial gain.
We should just let it go and wish them well.
