Remember the drama of losing Speedy Noil and a year later the kid tanks his career.

This kid had all the talent but never got to show it after high school

Is Josh Booty considered to be from this era? When I first moved here, all I heard on sports talk was the legend of Josh Booty. And next thing you know, he's coming to LSU. I know it didn't pan out the way everyone hoped, but there was def a ton of hype behind him.

Stingley

I saw him in HS and he reminded me of Patrick Peterson in that he was just physically on par with 20/21 year olds. His stats were absurd too, like 16 attempted passes in his direction with 5 breakups and 11 interceptions or something absurd like that.

Then he bowl practiced before Fiesta Bowl as a high schooler basically against Chase and was awesome. Aranda was glowing.

Of course now he's a two time first team All Pro.

ETA:

And Fournette. I used to watch his HS highlights all the time. Just embarrassed his opponents.

I agree with all the current selections but let me tell you there was just as much buzz over RB Garry James and WR Todd Kinchen in the 70s and 80s.

Another was LB Roovelroe Swann who had a career-ending injury in his first pre-season camp.

Going way back, Billy Cannon, Pat Screen, Tommy Casanova and Bert Jones made quite a stir.

Russell Shepard whom everyone thought was a unique qb talent. We were all wrong.
.

We will never know that because Les Miles never put him in for a snap at QB. Probably the largest wasted/underutilized talent at LSU this century.

That bothers me less than the fact that we never tried to use him in trick plays. Even if he didn’t have the talent to play QB at LSU, we have random arse WR throw passes every year.

I actually liked Abram Booty better and he was pretty highly regarded coming out of maybe evangel in Shreveport. But never went to the league that I can remember.

It was LF for me and boy did he pan out.

He didn’t pan out the way I expected. The “grown arse man” talk got me thinking we would see 5 Heismans in 3 years.

I don’t mean to nit-pick but I also expected to see better vision when choosing which holes to hit. But that obviously was not his style. Grown arse men will hit any hole they damn well please and will make their own damn holes if they don’t see one.

But I’m glad he panned out to become among the best running backs in LSU history and didn’t get banned from the record books like that other guy that followed him.

I followed recruiting very closely during that class of 2001 season. You could feel that the program was going to radically change.

Great thread but LF7 was the biggest hyped player ever in LSU history.

Once established at LSU, HIS hype beats anyone and that was Tm7. In 2(esp 2nd yr) years this cat on every down people had a 100k people and all of TV in wild anticipation that he'd make a big play literally on every down and he was just on defense and ST only.
