re: Who was LSU's last "freak" (athlete)?

Todd Kinchen was a "freak".
He was SEC offensive player of the year as a non-qb or rb.
He was possibly the quickest (as opposed to raw speed) player in LSU history.
He could change direction and cut on a dime.
He was a GREAT leaper, and leapt over opponents regularly.
What he did to Texas A & M was criminal.
His play against Vandy (freaking refs) was larcenous.
He was the first player in NFL history to score a td on a kickoff return AND a punt return in the SAME GAME and did it against a really strong SF 49ers team.
He could do a 360 reverse dunk as a sophmore in HS and was recruited by every major program in the country (Indiana NC) as a basketball player. He led his team to a state Championship in basketball.
He hit around 500 as a HS baseball player and led his HS to a state championship in that spot as well.
He lasted about 8/9 years in the NFL.
I think that a lot of people who weren't connected to the program never realized what this guy could do.If he played in a Crowton-type offense he would have done legendary things.
I do not know if he was our last "freak" but he was a freak.
His skill set was really unusual, unlike Eddie Kennison or others who relied on world class speed, he did it with white boy jukes and crazy angles and cuts.
He was a once-in-a-lifetime-athlete.

quote:5, actually, if you include kick returning. He played (at various times) RB, WR, Safety and CB as well as returning kicks. But what was his 40 time at the combine (since they can't be a "freak", apparently, unless their 40 time at the combine impresses you).
didn't he play like 3 positions including CB?

i don't think landry was that freakish
You still can't give your clear definition of what a "freak athlete" is...

well JR was freakish, but *i* don't generally lump arm strength in my analysis. you all are free to do so

he was before my time, but that clip of him against TAMU (i think) was pretty impressive

You're just upset because you got it wrong.

if he had another 15 lbs and still had the same stats, i'd agree with landry in a heartbeat
landry is a freak for LSU but not objectively. addai was right on par with landry
but you just said in response to:
"people who run 4.35, 38" vert and 10-6 broad jumps dont really grow on trees."
quote:
that's what makes them freaks
if they were common, it would just be another guy
so you are saying because of his weight, he cant be a freak??
how much faster, more explosive, can you get? regardless of weight?

quote:I agree. That punt return (A&M?) was outrageous. But he wasn't 6-3, 240, with a 4.27, so he doesn't meet this thread's standards.
Todd Kinchen was a "freak".

quick
strong (18-20+ reps of 225)
sub 4.4 at 225+
vertical over 35"
broad over 10-0

he was "freakish" not only because of his arm strength but for his sheer athletic ability for someone being that fricking big.
remember the flip jump he did on the sideline?

Kevin Faulk
"5-8, 200 lb guy running a 4.45? naw"
Saw him in person while I was a student at many LSU basketball games.
He was probably more like 5-6. He was not 5-8

well i'd think that your 6-0 WR/CB/S type athletes would have to be faster to be a "freak"
there are 6-0/205 types who put up those triangle numbers every years. usually at least a handful

If I had these measurables, I wouldn't even play football. I'd just hang out and wait for the combine.
Posted on 8/9/09 at 12:28 pm to TheDoc
oh JR was no slouch. he ran like a 4.85 at 260 and was light/quick on his feet
but if you take away the arm strength he's comparable to david jones or robert royal

you have to be big to be a freak??

quick
how do you measure "quick" ?
quote:
strong (18-20+ reps of 225)
who came up with 225?
quote:
sub 4.4 at 225+
so this "freak" has to weigh more than 225?
quote:
vertical over 35"
ok...
quote:
broad over 10-0
ok...
so in conclusion, there are none that exist.
care to name any other freaks from other schools that meet these reqs?
