Bill Walton has spoken about Maravich before. Walton has a massive man crush on the Pistol. But he is 100% correct.

Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak will be broken before someone averages 43 points a season for 3 seasons like Pete did. Unbreakable!!!

It truly is unbreakable. Any player with a flash of greatness is off to the NBA after one year. Until the NCAA ever makes them stay 3 like they do in football, the Pistol is going to hold that record forever.

I had to look it up, its a 1991 song called "Dignity". It says Pete's death inspired the song , but i didnt find anything in the lyrics about Pete or basketball

Look up the piano demo version. It's on Disc 2 of the Bootleg Vol. 8 Tell Tale Signs. By far my favorite version.

Had ESPN and Sports Center high lights been in existence back then, Pete would have been more famous that Jordan. Very few people around the country ever saw even a few of his high lights back then, yet he was still extremely famous.Had he been into nutrition, had a personal trainer, who knows how good he could have been on top of his greatness. But he also had his demons: many a nite, post game wtih the Jazz, I would see him in the restaurant/bar where his brother Ronnie worked in the Querter, sitting alone, a bottle of Jack in his hands. And he would drink non stop.

No one has scored more in their career than Pete and he didn't have a 3 point line.

Or a shot clock. Teams would try to freeze the ball just to keep Pete from scoring.

No one, but "The Big O" was somewhat close.

Bout 35 pts a game to go with bout 15 rebs a game.

Guy was a monster in his day, but there has been only one "Pistol Pete"!

Imagine what Pete's average would have been if collage had a 3 point line while he was playing...50+

+1
He would have scored at least 450 more points over his college career: 90 games x five
3-pointers per game (at the least) = 450 more points.

3,667 points in 83 games. That's 44 points per game. No one is even close.

And the list of scoring leaders behind Maravich is stunning. LINK

The amount of scoring Maravich did is unprecedented.

If you look up top 25 points scored in a careers, not only is he number 1 inmost points scored, and most field goals, he is also #1 in fewest games played. He averaged 44.2 points per game, when here was no 3 point line. the guy was sick.

Chris Jackson could take over a game and his competition was better.

Dale Brown went back and charted all his shots and with the current 3 point line he would have averaged 13 3's made per game. His scoring average would have been around 57 points per game.

First (and, I think only) white guy to get an offer from the Harlem Globetrotters. He was scary all over the court: scoring, passing, ball-handling, and was not bad on D. The night with the Jazz that he scored over 60 points, he held Walt Frazier to 12. Was lucky enough to see him play both collegiately and as a pro.

I didn't realize he was 6'5"!

I was born in 88' the year he passed so I've only been able to see highlight films and old documentaries. For 6'5" he moved exceptionally well.
