Just off topic for a bit, Why hasn't Chris Jackson's number been retired at LSU?

Pete's early passing affected me longer and deeper than than any other athlete

I don't know about you guys, but when I play ball I try to pass like Pete, typically fail miserably.

I have no idea how he could squeeze them in there like he did.

Chris Jackson could take over a game and his competition was better.

I love Chris Jackson and his basketball skills. But to say that Pete couldn't take over a game as well is just ignorant. Plus Pete was double and triple teamed his whole career. Most people played a box and one on him with one defender following him everywhere he went and the rest playing zone help. And Chris could never pass the ball like Pete because no one could.

His name was Gary Simpson(my brother.) He averaged 14.4 as a sophomore and got drafted into the army. He was in basic training by April of that year. He died of cancer November 22, 1980. Glad someone remembered him.

Thanks for remembering my brother. Your details were mostly correct (sarcoma tumor, not leukemia).
How did you know about him?

Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak will be broken before someone averages 43 points a season for 3 seasons like Pete did. Unbreakable!!!

Anyone that comes close to averaging 43 points a game in one season has absolutely no reason to stay in college for two more years.

Nobody ever was or ever will be As a freshman he would pack the arena ,it would empty out when the varsity played, he got ovations from opposing fans,at away games. Id like to see somebody review his LSU films and count 3 pts for shots that would have been threes.OK Dale Brown said he would have avg. 57, but he also would have attempted more threes. Heard he would practice dribbling out of a car window going down the road.

He didn't graduate and retiring the jersey of someone who disrespected America (regardless of the reason and what he says about it now) would go over like a lead balloon in Louisiana.

Imagine what Pete's average would have been if collage had a 3 point line while he was playing...50+

Dale Brown, noted every shot that Pistol Pete Maravich took in college basketball and calculated that Pete would have made an average of 13 three-point shots per game.

If he played under current regulations with the three-point arc set at 5.8 metres (19-foot 9 inches) from the rim, he would have averaged 57 points per game. 3 pt shot
