Didn’t we hear tha some board members were pushing for Mel Tucker before we hired BK?

I do remember the name Mel Tucker. But I was strong on Lincoln Riley. I still am and think that if Lincoln Riley would’ve been hired that he would’ve been way better here than he is at USC. I wish we could’ve made that hire. LSU and Woodward Only hired Brian Kelly, because that was sort of their last option that was out of the considered pool. I didn’t like the Kelly hire at the start, but I was able to be convinced after those two first seasons only because of the win.

It seems like LSU was just ripe for a dud. There is no way of knowing how things would work out. Lanning looks like he would have been the best in hindsight

I was screaming for Lane-until we hired BK. I was thrilled by the hire and didn't even know he was in the discussion.

I didn't realize BK would approach the job like a cook at Red Lobster. We should have hired Kiffen.

Maybe pre-Bills Joe Brady?
No way he handles the coming of NIL properly.

2021 Cycle Dan Lanning was hired by Oregon Mike Elko was hired by Duke Kalen DeBoer was hired by Washington Brent Venables was hired by Oklahoma Marcus Freeman was promoted by ND Sonny Dykes was hired by TCU Rhett Lashlee was hired by SMU Joey McGuire was hired by Texas Tech I’m not including Cristobal because LSU was never going to beat

I think all of those coaches would’ve been better than Kelly in hindsight lol

At the time, I wanted Kiffin. Many were saying it was too big of a risk.

Out of the one's considered, should have been Lincoln Riley.

You know the coach has to actually want the job.

Riley didn’t seem to want the job or he wanted more money. Herman wanted Texas/more money. It’s not as simple as LSU offers whatever coach they want and he has to accept.

Kelly had taken ND to the BCS Championship Game. He had taken them to the CFP in 2018, again in 2020, and had ND 11-1 with an outside chance of returning to the CFP for the second straight year (3rd time overall) at the time the accepted the LSU. Given guys like Smart, Saban and Dabo at the time weren't going to leave for LSU, there were only two other guys, Riley and Kelly, in the prior 5 years who had such success. By all accounts Riley chose USC. That left Kelly. If in December of 2021 LSU had hired Dan Lanning and LSU fans found out Kelly wanted the job, but was passed over, this board would have gone apoplectic. LSU hired Georgia's DC who had never been a HC when they could have had a guy who was 44-6 over the last 4 years with two CFP appearances!!!!!

Not just that, he was the Co-DC and less experienced than Schumann.

Lane. He openly made his agent Jimmy Sexton contact LSU to inform him he wanted the job. Time to fix that mistake and bring him to BR after the season.

Brian was the right hire. But couldn’t get over the hump in the short amount of time we gave him. I hope we don’t end up worse off hoping for the grass is greener
