Steltz! He was fun to watch, and he had command of the defense. The dude was smart.

Casanova played as a safety with the Cincinnati Bengals and also returned punts. As a rookie, he intercepted five passes on defense and had a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown. He was named the team MVP by his teammates after the season.

I remember Casanova had 9.8 hundred speed. Probably faster than the others top end.

Jamal Adams. I feel like he will go down as one of the top 10 Safeties in NFL history.

He’s my pick for top LSU safety

The Walter Camp Foundation put him on the all century team as a safety

i was at LSU at exactly the same time he was. He was a corner in college.

Here is something to consider. He covered the other teams best receiver. He was also a ball hawk like a safety. He could play in the box.

He was a bigger version of Matthieu with better cover skills but not the quickness or ability to strip the ball albeit he was good at that but Mathieu was the best I’ve ever seen.

If you say for 1-2 years ans consider Mathieu a safety, he is the best I’ve seen.

Ed Reed biggest attribute was his IQ. Jamal favors him alot in that aspect, but like you say they play different. Jamal's much more physical, but Ed had better ball skills.

If Reed and Polomalu had a love child maybe Jamal would be that.

Adams was a phenomenal tackler and defensive player, but Landry and Delpit were much bigger playmakers when you look at their interception and sack totals (Steltz was as well, but he was only a full-time starter in his last year I believe). Chad Jones was also a great playmaker and had one of the most memorable punt returns in LSU history with the Patrick Peterson windmill assist.

Landry was the most impactful from start to finish. Delpit when healthy was also on another level. Steltz' final season was probably as good as any season a safety has had at LSU with the numbers he put up. Adams was great, but he is actually a much bigger playmaker in the NFL than he was here.

Laron Landry led the 2003 defense in tackles as true freshman and made an all sec team every year he was here.
