I remember Russ very well but he didn’t play or compete for LSU. Which is what the original post asked. Bar none I both were incredible athletes along with Todd Cutchins.

This was my first thought.
Glad that wasn't a crazy thought
He graduated the year before I got to Barbe as a freshman, so it was fun watching a Barbe guy cut up in the SEC Championship and then NC.

Not many to choose from
Football
Jesse Myles
Mitch Andrews
Track
Caleb Williams
Daniel Trosclair
Brianne Bergeron
Of these Williams is far and away the best followed by Trosclair, who was the best pole vaulter the state ever produced prior to Mondo.
Myles and Andrews were decent players, but Trosclair and Williams were both All-Americans.

Tara High, Ricky Meador. His older sister Jan was probably the second best.

I was expecting Reuben Randle

Yes. Rueben Randle. Jimmy Gilbert. Josh Downs. And another DT that was a starter at LSU but got into drug issues when he left LSU.

Russ absolutely was on LSU's track team and held every pole vault record until Mondo recently broke them, Not trying to argue with you but it said any sport.
i remember when Todd pitched their was at 10 scouts at his games his senior year. i remember picture the his parents had printed and framed in their house of the only game the Mets called him up and he got to
he start during his seven year Minor League career.
I'm pretty sure we have to know each other by your username and the fact that Westlake is so small. i was young when i was watching David and Todd.
Dint miss many games while David was at LSU, sucks his back injury cut his pro career short though, Excited to watch his son JD follow in his dad's footsteps. Hope when his time comes he does well.

Only players that I know of from my school (Woodlawn BR) are Rickie Collins, Darnell Lazare (BB), and Ricky Picou (FB) (from way back when...about 1970). He was a year ahead of me in hs.

You are correct. I completely forgot Russ was on the track team. I thought he went California right after he graduated but I think he did that after college. Either way he was a great athlete.
