Patrick Verbeek (born May 24, 1964) is a Canadian former ice hockey player who played for the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, and Detroit Red Wings during his career. His nickname, "The Little Ball of Hate", was given to him in 1995 by Glenn Healy after fellow New York Rangers teammate Ray Ferraro was tagged as the "Big Ball of Hate".

Totally original....stick with TM7.

There was a female sports reporter here in Dallas a few years back and that was her nickname. She was terrible.

And she stole it from Pat Verbeek who used to play for the Dallas Stars hockey team (that was his nickname and he had it before he got here).

ETA: Bunkie beat me to it. Good job, Bunkie!

"Little Balls of Hate" form cocoons after their first year...after that...they transform...into "HONEY BADGERS"!

TM7 sucks...kinda like PP7 but different.

He certainly plays with the intensity of a honey badger.

The fact that anyone can say "honey badger", "TM7", "little ball of hate", "T-Rex", or "T-Mat", and we know who they are referring to is a testament to the popularity of Mathieu.

One thing I notice about him, is that he talks a lot of smack after every play. Normally I'm not a fan of smack talk, but he is one player who backs it up and it gives him confidence.

Hell of a player.

enjoy him while he's here.

I'm not a fan of LBofH either. Leave it to hockey, journalists and MMA fighters. TM7 works for message boards. But Honey Badger captures his aggressive game play and is just unique enough it might garner him some media recognition.

Little Ball of Hate is unoriginal.

Auburn fans called LB Tray Blackmon the Little Ball of Hate back during the Tuberville era. Not sure why people like this so much.

The dude's name is Tyrann. T-Rex or Tyrann O-Saurus Wrecks are just too good not to be used. It's freaking gift wrapped.

I modified it to little ball of violence.

I think it's much more fitting.

So your response to an unoriginal nickname is to completely rip off Patrick Peterson's nickname A YEAR AFTER HE LEAVES?

It doesn't really roll off the tongue like some nicknames do. I am kinda indifferent to it. It does describe his playing style. TM7 plays with a level of constant high energy that I have never seen in my 30 years of watching LSU football. There is just never any drop off in his instensity.

Watched the game replay last night and one of the coaches said they (not sure if he was referring to the whole team or just the coaches)call him The Tasmanian(sic)Devil - TAZ works for me!
