Who honestly has a problem with preseason #1 in football?

Every publication seems to tout us as a preseason #1 for 2011, but as soon as someone post a thread about it, it gets dragged down by guys saying that they would rather be #10 or so instead of #1 in the preseason.

That is complete horseshite. If you cannot win enough games to make it to the NC ranked #1, then you were not going to win enough games ranked #10. Also, if a poll puts us at #10, you people would post 10+ threads talking about how "_____ hates LSU" and how LSU is better than the other 9 teams by far.

Everyone needs to take the preseason accolades in stride and hope LSU performs accordingly. Being #1 does not put any more pressure on the players than what already exist from the coaches/fans/media. If you don't want to wear the bulls-eye on your chest then GTFO.

I am assuming you are one of those pansies to which I was referring.

Look, I do not really care what some sportswriter says in April, but it is ridiculous to take issue with being #1.

Surprised is perfectly fine with me. You can be surprised

I am referring to the guys who say, repeatedly, that they wish we were just inside of the Top 10, but not at 1.

LSU is a historically bad #1 team. I'd rather be #2 the entire season until the final poll.

I understand the notion you are making here, but if LSU is preseason #1 in the USA Today or the AP poll and they go out and lose to Oregon, it will not have been because of their ranking.

I hear ya, and you are right...but take comfort in the fact that with few exceptions, most teams are bad #1 teams....I mean, how many times have we heard in the last 10 years that a new team that became #1 got knocked off? I do see what you are saying....with all of that, I would rather not start out ranked #1.....

I like being #1, cause IF you lose early you have enough time to make up ground. I just don't see LSU losing a game this year. The team IS JUST LOADED!!!!!!!!!!

I am serious. Laugh all you want but this is a dangerous team. A smackdown D a bevy of quality rb's. Most experienced QB's in the SEC. Once they beat the Ducks ITS VER for the rest of the country.

How do you know we're going to have a smackdown defense?

Good question. I haven't heard nearly as much about the defense this Spring as I have the QBs. Am wondering if Chief is building quietly, or are there a few big holes.

They have reloaded with STUDS everywhere, plus another spring under Cahvis will only help. This will be one of the BEST LSU D's in history.

Will our defense be better than the defense Bama puts on the field?

How many starters do we have coming back on defense?

I'm excited about it. Gives me a reason to feel a little bit smug for a few months at least up here in ACC country.

If our D performs even close to what it did last year, much less if it does even better, then we have a great chance at going all the way. The reports of JJ are a little relieving, considering even JJ himself is talking about how hard he's pushing himself and that he didn't do so last year. All LSU needs to kill this year is a semblance of an offense.
