LSU is a historically bad #1 team. I'd rather be #2 the entire season until the final poll.
This statement makes no sense, The ranking is a reflection of the talent that LSU is putting on the field.
LSU will be fine, the team is loaded on both sides of the ball.

frick that. I want to start the year #1, beat everyone's asses in between, and finish the year #1.

I think everyone is missing the obvious points. All these publications know that LSU historically struggles when ranked #1 so they're voting LSU #1 now BECAUSE THEY HATE LSU!

I have a problem with being ranked #1 before spring practice is even complete. You never know how 18-22 year olds are going to respond to 5 months of hearing how they're picked as the #1 team in the nation. Reading too many press clippings about how great you're supposed to be can be a negative.
Personally, I'd rather be top 5 and take it from there.

Well, LSU finished #8 last season and is ranked in the Top 5 among BCS schools for winning percentage since 2005.
So, it's not like we are going to sneak up on anyone or not have high expectations of winning already.
Why not be ranked #1? It's something of an honor anytime no matter the ending results of a season. imo
Plus, it gives the "LSU football is in a decline" crowd something else to have to swallow.

If a team starts as # 1 or 2 then they can end as # 1 or 2 if they live up to their billing and eventually play in the NC game........

I think Lsu is a top 10 team, but #1 is a little optimistic. I personally don't believe we should have any rankings until the 4th. game. I know the talking heads have to have something to talk about but it is a guess at best this early. I hope we are #1 at at the end.All u have to do is keep winning & every think will work it self out!

What we have in BR is a football team that has finished in the Top 8 4 of the past 6 seasons, won 11 games 4 of the past 6 seasons, both of those being unmatched in the SEC, and we have a winning percentage since 05 that ranks us in the Top 5 among BCS schools.
I don't have a problem with those kinda results, but if you do...knock yourself out.

Preseason rankings hardly matter, imo. It's just an accolade that doesn't come with any prize whatsoever.
We'd get a chance to win the national championship even if we started #25 if the team is good enough on the field. Any undefeated team in the SEC deserves a NC bid no matter where they started. And a one loss team should be pretty close after. Hell, even with two losses we got there in 2007, albeit with much controversy.

I don't get the people whining about getting media respect. Lsu fans will find something to get mad at. There is not one other school in the country that would complain about being #1.
Reading the board the last couple years there were a significant amount of people that swore lsu would never best saban an Meyer again, lsu was on a decline and will never rise again with Miles. Well, those predictions have been shattered. Lsu is getting media respect. Why not get behind the team and support them? Why continue to try hard to find negatives?
