it seems that when the saints lose a game it isn't that big of a deal but when LSU loses, it is like a death in the family
You can't figure out why that is? A loss in the NFL is no big deal, you can have 6 or 7 and still win the Super Bowl, 1 loss in CFB and you're probably done.

Thats because they were playing Tulane. Everyone knew it was going to be a blowout.
And the Saints played in Tiger Stadium in 2005 after Katrina, people had more important shite to deal with.

Personally, I am a bigger LSU fan, but the Saints are more popular across the state

Louisiana as a whole is more of a college football fan base. This doesn't answer your question but is a fact nonetheless.

LSU 48 or 58..lost count.
Saints 23
Regardless LSU wins.
This is worth repeating.....
Saturday night in Tiger Stadium is Louisiana.
Sunday noon super dome just isn't...some LSU fans and bunch of other trashy people hanging out in the same place.
Fact.
Dwi.

Put this on the Saints Talk and see the number flip...
ETA: The question is really "who has more fans?" where a person can be a fan of both. The people claiming LSU because of "passion" don't understand the OP.

Outside New Orleans metro area the answer is LSU.
Why this is tough for you people to understand is a little confusing.

Plenty of people outside NO have answered "Saints."
Why can't you understand there are other college football teams across the state who people prefer over LSU? Even people who go to the games only go for the atmosphere/tailgating but are still ULL, SELU, or Tulane fans.

Can you explain this then?
quote:
Facebook says its the saints and it's not even close. Saints - 2.9 million likes LSU - 760k likes LSU football - 250k likes I understand people outside of LA can like the Saints but the same can be said about LSU.

The state as a whole loves LSU more.
North Louisiana has a closer association with the cowboys.
But New Orleans... It's an intimate relationship between the city and the Saints. Not many cities can say that their football team saved the city. That falcons game in 06 was one of the most transcendent sporting events in history for saints fans. Many saints fans will say that the Super Bowl is #2 greatest moment behind the homecoming game.

You do realize most alumni in every college in Louisiana, outside those jealous little fricks in laffayette all support LSU right?
Posted on 8/11/13 at 8:33 pm to TIGRLEE
As I said that's not 100% accurate, but a gap that wide shows that the saints are obviously more popular. I don't have a Facebook either, so that's not even really relevant.

Do you all realize that the NFL is vastly more popular too? Do research on TV ratings, including those in the South and LA. You'll find that mere preseason games hold their own with big CF games. Regular season games have hugely higher ratings even when compared to marquee prime time CF matchups with only one or two CF games on. Regular season run of the mill NFL games outdraw big bowls in ratings. Middle of the season Saints games get higher ratings in LA than Bama LSU. I did this research last year, so it's out there.
It's a no brainer folks.

Shreveport is still cowboys country. Always will be.
Posted on 8/11/13 at 8:37 pm to Sammy1313
So you're telling me a reg season saints game was a bigger tv draw than CBS prime time LSU Alabama.?
So bro, Your research is fricking whack.

Outside of the New Orleans metro area? Havent been to Lafayette, Houma or Thibodeaux much

What gives you that impression?
LSUS, LSUA, LSUE don't count you know. There's also ULM, LaTech, McNeese, Northwestern, Nichols, Loyola, Southern, Xavior, etc. All of their alums are LSU fans?
People are confusing passion with popularity. Are people crazier about LSU? I would think so. You have a huge part of the "fan base" between the ages of 18-24 who drink, yell, and shite talk much more than the average Saints fan. And people who remember their college life, like to associate with this behavior. It has also been mentioned how important winning is in the college game; whereas the Saints can lose 7 games and still win the SB.
I just think if you look at the OP's question without bias, it has to be the Saints who's fan base spans most of the state without much competition. Think of it this way: everyone in LA gets a questionnaire with 1)Favorite College FB team? with all the teams in the state listed. 2)Favorite Pro Football team? with all the pro teams listed. Even with 'none' as an option, the Saints win big.
