since Tulane left the SEC, LSU is the only major college program in Louisiana and a unifying factor to a state with several different cultures...
there is a difference between the Saints fanbase and the LSU fanbase, I've noticed it going to game watching parties in NYC where you might see one or two of the Legend's group watching the Saints on Sunday at bar none.....
the Saints are more of a unifying factor between Louisiana and Mississippi where LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss State fans have a common ground of agreement....

I personally am a bigger LSU fan, but LSU is not the correct answer to this question.
This is the correct answer

Personally, I could give a fig about any NFL team. But, overall, its the Saints and not even close.

Not even close. LSU is LOUISIANA's team, the Saints are New Orleans' team. People would survive if the Saints left. People would jump off a bridge if we lost LSU. ETA: LSU sells out the Superdome. The Saints could not sell out Death Valley.

I could give 2 shits about the Saints, or any NFL team really, I watch for Fabtasy Football tbh. I guess they're my favorite NFL team

the saints gained half their fans after 2006.... just saying.
The Monroe area has been for the Saints fan since Bum Phillips. It was the Cowboys before the 80s. Its all about who the local station carries.

You do realize their waiting list for season tickets has 30,000 people on it.

And I remember Tulane-Lsu in the dome in 2007 being much less than full. 58K announced and less than that showed up.

LSU mainly because of the sellout bandwagon cowboys fans in north La.
Posted on 8/11/13 at 6:37 pm to tiger4178
LSU, the Saints fan base drops off significantly as you leave the New Oleans metro area.

it seems that when the saints lose a game it isn't that big of a deal but when LSU loses, it is like a death in the family. College teams carry a large proportion of local kids which increases local area pride. NFL teams are made up of guys from across the country, you just don't have that local pride for NFL teams that you have with college teams. Just read the blogs, teams like the az cardinals are being mentioned as favorites now because of LSU products like Peterson and the honey badger. If both the tigers and saints are winning, LSU should be the overall favorite hands down.

Thats because they were playing Tulane. Everyone knew it was going to be a blowout.
