Which LSU team(s) we’re just a few plays away from a national championship?

2012 Florida.

fricking Les calling a jump pass on 4th and 2 to try to stick it to Urban at the goal line with Terrance Magee

Florida calls time out. Les comes out with the same formation. Play is a disaster and costs us the game

The 2006 team was the best team in the nation with 2 inexcusable Les Miles-type losses.

Arguably in 2011 we were a few Oklahoma State plays away from winning the NC, because we wouldn't have played Bama.

Had chance in 09 too. Playing no. 1 Florida at home and we had it 4th and goal and miles went for field goal instead of trying to punch it in...only points we scored.

2006 was a play way, or a proper review, or a ref decision.

Other than 2019 that 2006 team may have been our best.

Unpopular opinion, but 2016 was closer to a great year than the record indicates.

- Harris’ int late vs Wisconsin on the fringe of GW FG range
- 1 second late against Auburn
- Guice goes the wrong way against UF
- Hurts’ TD with 3 simultaneous holds and no flag

4 Ls by inches. It all amounts to that team not being able to make the big play when it counts though.

Man, in 1987, we were 10-1-1

We tied Ohio State, which was painful and our only loss was to Alabama who was really not as good as us. A couple bounces or a player or two could have made the difference.

Ohio was our nemesis for a couple years. My first game as a Freshman was aTm in 86 we knocked them off even though they were ranked pretty high in the top 10. Next week we lost to unranked Miami of Ohio. Went on to have a really good season with just a couple losses.

LSU has a better chance to win championship that year too if Flynn is the QB.

Also (chances are low, but who knows) - what if Michael Ford scores a TD during 9-6 overtime vs stepping out of bounds? 12-6 vs 9-6 may have given enough pause to look for another matchup.

Speaking of 2006.... Our first 7 games went like this:
45 Pts scored
45 Pts scored
3 Pts scored
49 Pts scored
48 Pts scored
10 Pts scored
49 Pts scored

Those two low weeks were our loses and I still cant get over how we dominated almost every other game that season.

There were more than just a “few plays” in that title game that prevented the win.

Unless you’re talking about the plays in the Okie St. - Iowa State game.
