I mean they could be noise suppressors, flash suppressors, or muzzle brakes. Any of them would make sense for a sniper to have fitted on their rifle, depending on the situation.

The increase in velocity is BS so is the balance. You are putting more weight on the end so how do you figure it would help with balance? As for the suppressor, it is reducing the outflow thereby reducing sound and will also effect velocity. Before you say any more stupid shite, I was an instructor at Quantico for 4 years and still compete in Long Range matches.

Interesting. I have actually measured about 125 to 150 more FPS out of the exact same rifle and had loads with a chronometer shooting an accuracy international in a 338 Lupua. That was chrono’d.
I also saw it take that exact rifle out another 150 yards from 1150 to 1300 allowing me to hit the plate further. The only difference was suppressed versus not. My spotter that day has the initials of WW - he is a world champion on the 50 cal. If you compete you likely know who he is - retired SGM and instructor at a very well know long range shooting range. The rifle was originally set up by Randy Pennington.
You can claim it’s “stupid shite”’all you want but it is real and if you compete you should know the world champion I am speaking of and who Randy is.
