Where will Grant Delpit rank all time among LSU safeties?

Questions like this are always inherently arbitrary and a matter of opinion. Comparing players from different eras is even more subjective.
One objective measure, admittedly imperfect too, would be NFL draft position. What got me thinking was MCShay predicting Delpit will be third overall in the draft. Wow. I think that would be the highest ever slot for an LSU defensive back.
Peterson, a corner, went 5th overall. Jamaal Adams was 6th overall pick as was Laron Landry. Casanova was a second round pick.
Craig Stelz went in the fourth round, Eric Reed in middle of first round.
All players have strengths and weaknesses. Landry and Stelz were not great in coverage but big hitters. Greedy Williams is great in coverage, maybe not a great tackler.
It’s hard to see a weakness in Delpit’s game. He does everything well.
If we are talking all defensive backs, I would have him just after Peterson. If we are talking just safeties, let’s see how he down this year.
One thing for sure, Delpit is in the conversation for top safety ever at LSU, and that is saying a ton.
Delpit is quietly so good, sometimes I forget about him. I haven’t seen any rankings this year, but I would imagine if they were ranking the best defensive backfields in college football for this year, LSU would be up there.
I think when it’s all said and done, three players from this backfield end up first round picks, Delpit, Fulton and Stingley. Man are we spoiled.

I think Delpit’s the best safety to ever put on the purple and gold

I think that Delpit will end up being tGoat at safety for LSU, but that’s just my opinion

As good as Adams was, Honey Badger was definitely a better college player.

Are we including Mathieu in the list as a safety? He was mostly a rover, so I would.
If so:
1. Mathieu
2. Cassanova (Purely based on word of mouth)
3. Delpit
4. Landry
5. Adams
6. Jones
7. Reid

he's also my #1
he should've won the Thorpe last year, and he was also the best defender on the team (and top 3ish nationally). yes I thought he was better than Devin last year, and Devin was great.

If we are only talking about college, then this wasn't an issue until he got to the NFL. Landry was great in college during his career at LSU. Actually, Steltz was pretty good in coverage too

He was certainly more important and crucial than White. LSU struggles when Delpit wasn’t on the field

Pretty good, objective list. This season will obviously go a long way in determining his legacy and 'ranking'.

I think when all is said and done he will be the best in the modern era

Delpit had a great 2nd year.
But Landry had 4 great years and Tommy Casanova was a 3 time all American.
And although Mathieu played nickleback and corner I would still list him as a safety cause he and delpit played similar roles and Mathieu had arguably the best season of them all.
1) Landry
2) Casanova
3) Mathieu
4) Delpit
5) Adams

Who was the FS that played in the late 80s and maybe drafted by the Giants?........................
Update: It's Greg Jackson.

Chad Jones is at best 4th on those list of names alone.
I didn’t get to see Casanova play, but based off reputation, I would put him at least in the top 2.

Im not going to be a prisoner of the moment and put him ahead of Jamal Adams right now.
