Winning a Natty + all tournament team + better stats on the season clears batting .500 winning a regional.

For sure Curiel is in the top 10, maybe top 5, but not over Walker who would be my #1. Alex Lange may be the most impressive as a freshman pitcher.
Blake Dean hit 20HR and was over .350 avg as a freshman. Bregman set the single season hits record as a freshman

It’s obvious that you don’t. Curiel had Anderson, Eyanson, and a dang near perfect infield helping his team win 1-0 games.
Crews had pitchers like Mikhail Hilliard and Javen Coleman backed up with infielders that “played on turf in high school so let’s start them in the regional” trying to hold the other teams down.
It’s a real shame that Crews didn’t pitch a shutout against Tennessee in the super regional to go along with his home run at the plate. It’s obviously up to the outfielder to do it all.

The natty can come up in a conversation about team accomplishments.
I mentioned it b/c OP listed a natty as one of Curiel's accomplishments.

He was a year older than my brother. I was always a fan and got to see him hit a long home run at Salmen. I’m also a Cubs fan so seeing him and Theriot was a dream as a young ball player.

He hit more than one against Tennessee

So you're saying Crews was the better freshman because his teammates were not as good as Curiel's?
Did you know Curiel doesn't get to bring a teammate or pitcher with him up to bat? What does the starting pitchers have to do with offensive stats?

Did you know there are other stats tracked besides HR’s?

I do. Why don’t you put all of them side by side.

Speaking of that era, a freshman Blair Barbier wants to have a seat at the table:

A 2002 graduate of LSU with a degree in finance, Barbier was a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He was named Freshman all-America and all-SEC in 1997 after batting .353 with 23 doubles, 15 homers and 57 RBI.

They had a similar batting average. The same amount of hits. Curiel had more RBI, more doubles. They're in this thread.

Todd Walker is the answer…if you didn’t know it’s because you weren’t alive.

DJ LeMahieu was solid as well.

Crews was the solo homerun king his freshman year. RBI is a decent stat for hitting with runners in scoring position, but doesn’t tell the whole story. For instance, how many chances did each have to drive runs in?

quote:had nothing to do with it but you’re the one who brought the ring argument (which is a team accomplishment btw) into it. the talent of pitchers curiel had on his roster compared to crews freshmen season isn’t even in the same stratosphere. do you think this team doesn’t win a natty this year if you replace freshmen crews with Curiel?
What does the starting pitchers have to do with offensive stats?
