It seems like the last two years fans have gone into the Bama game with the idea that a loss to Bama is the most likely outcome and that this is acceptable. I don’t remember that ever being the case in the 15 years or so.

Even after Saban had that program humming, we always thought we could beat them. In fact, losing to them 6 straight times is part of the reason why fired our last coach. Now, a Bama loss is all but a foregone conclusion and is excusable by most. What happened?

Last year it was acceptable because it was an interim coach running the show.

This year it's acceptable because people have lowered the bar for said interim coach who is now running the show.

It's weird. We fired a coach and then lowered the expectations for his replacement. That's not the way it's supposed to work.

Likely, not acceptable. Speaking for me, anyway.

Now I think it's due to the shifting of goal posts to not notice that we'll likely end up with a virtual mirror image type season to what had most fans apoplectic the past 5 years. We're now being told that what would have had fans outraged should be looked at as a success. It's LSU Newspeak. Waiting for someone to tell us this season has been doubleplusgood.

Seems a large contengent of fans on the rant have a defeatist mentality. Bama should certainly make anyone neverous. They’ve been good for almost a decade, now. But some on here have already given Bama the ‘W’. I’m going to believe we have a chance until if/when it’s certain we don’t.

Just in case y’all forgot, we fought hard against a Bama last year. Their TD came on a play where holding should’ve been called on 3 different Bama players.

And acceptance comes so easily to so many.

Well can't you see that Miles left O with no talent !

Wait do we have talent now since we won three straight? I'm confused.

Why don't you just speak for yourself because sure in the hell I don't have lowered expectations and losing to anyone more so Alabama will never ever be accepted! frick off to all the damn NegaTigers fans out there!

Let me guess, if we beat Alabama, it will still be what? Oh, Coach O and our Tigers lucked out? Alabama lost the game or played like shite? Alabama was overrated?

So a 9-3 season would be unacceptable to you, right? 8-4 would be a terrible season, no?

A double digit loss would warrant criticism, correct?

Other than just the every 15 minute posts from one of our High School Charlies who relishes dumping on the program, what is the purpose of this post? You really think anyone will be glad if LSU loses? But if we do lose you think we should fire the coach ?

Don't make any sense together.

You're saying that a loss to Alabama is unacceptable, but you're also saying people will wrongfully dismiss it if we win. Which is it?

For clarity, would losing to Alabama this year be grounds for criticism of Orgeron/this staff?

To find out at what point LSU fans have become complacent with a Bama loss.

I understand that Orgeron won’t be fired this year, but I also understand that we fired miles and hired Orgeron presumably with the idea that we would improve on Miles’ last 4 years. To do that, don’t you think expectations should remain the same or even be raised a bit for the new coach?

No - his argument is that people are setting up the Alabama game such that Orgeron and company are above criticism with a loss.

Orgeron already lost to Saban twice. Once last November and then again on the recruiting trail.

Of the 2016 game, the 2016 recruiting offseason, and this 2017 game @T-Town, this is the least likely of the three for LSU to win. Orgeron had a more talented roster last year, home field advantage, the best RB in college football, the best backup RB in college football, and the best defensively called/executed game against anyone Alabama faced last year. He also got Alabama with a true freshman QB. Result....shutout.

This season, the loss to Troy, 30pt loss to State, inability to stop the run, and the lack of a passing game to WRs and you would have to be pretty delusional to think we have the upper hand in any area of the game compared to them right now.

It's different for fans that accept our coaches losing to them than those that expect to lose to them. Hopefully the team has more heart and fight than the fans.

I'll take "Having it Both Ways" for $1,000, Alex.

Yes and no...

Miles was fired because of his unwillingness to change. Ed was hired because he had a plan to change. His plan was to seek out and hire the best offensive coordinator he could. I still believe he did that. However, change isn’t always easy or immediate. Some of us realize that. Others think it’s just a flip of a switch. In the grand scheme of things, 3-losses is disappointing. But in the context of this particular season - new OC with a transition to a new philosophy, very young team, etc. - 3 losses isn’t terrible.

That said, we don’t have 3 losses yet. And until we possibly do, I’ll believe we can win that next game.
