re: When’s the last time it was acceptable to lose to Bama?

It is not excusable. However, we see the problem is now mostly with Alleva. Somehow, our expectations have greatly fallen for this program.
There's really not much we can do until he is fired.

Of the 2016 game, the 2016 recruiting offseason, and this 2017 game @T-Town, this is the least likely of the three for LSU to win.
Call me crazy... but since 2 of those are past events, I would wager this game is the MOST likely for LSU to win.

then why didn't we fire Les sooner?
Winning a NC and playing for another buys you a little time.
We lost the last 5 Bama games of Miles' tenure, and he caught heat for every one of those losses. Many (myself included) thought he should have been fired following the 2015 season, and the 5 straight losses to Bama was a large part of that.
But that doesn't change the fact that many on here are now willing to give the current coaching staff a pass on the Bama game. We saw it last year and we are seeing it again this year. You had many who said last year that if Orgeron keeps the bama game close and wins out he deserves the job. This year you have fans that have come up with every excuse under the sun as to why it's okay for LSU to lose to bama (hell, we have fans that have already excused the losses to State and Troy).
Complacency is the quickest route to mediocrity.

If CLM was the coach last year we get blown out. It was tied 0-0 in the 4th.
I think anyone that knows talent knows that LSU is, for the first time in a long time, at serious disadvantage talent wise this year...especially on both sides of the line.

Yeah, Miles could never stay on the field with Saban in Tiger Stadium.

Nope. We’ve been at a serious talent disadvantage to Alabama since Saban’s string of #1 recruiting classes started. Just like everyone else in the country.
It’s just now that many of you are not only accepting that fact, but using it as an excuse for the new coach unlike the pitchforks you carried when the previous coach couldn’t beat them.
ETA: For the record, I’ve been clear I will not hold a loss to Alabama against O in the slightest, assuming it isn’t some 66-3 beat down like they put on Ole Miss.
This game should be a comfortable win for Saban though no doubt.

It seems like the last two years fans have gone into the Bama game with the idea that a loss to Bama is the most likely outcome and that this is acceptable. I don’t remember that ever being the case in the 15 years or so.
Even after Saban had that program humming, we always thought we could beat them. In fact, losing to them 6 straight times is part of the reason why fired our last coach. Now, a Bama loss is all but a foregone conclusion and is excusable by most.
It's as if you think the program follows the confidence rather than vice versa.

Bama has elevated their program above everyone else's program. Have you been in a cave over the last 5 years?

Yeah...b/c last years team was as talented as 2014 & 2012 right?

Another lie that has somehow been repeated
I won't make you click:
Average 247 composite for starting OL:
LSU: 0.92
Bama: 0.93
Average 247 composite for starting DL:
LSU: 0.95
Bama: 0.97

Bama has been an elite program since 2009. Which year did LSU fans say its okay for Miles to lose to Bama?

How bout 2008?

I mean, O followed Miles's game plan for the game. How can you say this?

Great numbers, but you have to admit that just using starters is a bit disingenuous.
Alabama has waves of 4 and 5 star talent behind their starters that we just don’t.
I agree that youth and lack of talent is a false crutch the CheeriOs are using as excuses for the early season struggles against the Troys and MSUs of our schedule, but Alabama is clearly on a different level. In so many ways.
No need to try to make a case for why we shouldn’t be expected to lose this game when there just isn’t one to be made.
Anything can happen, obviously. But a win in two weeks would be a huge upset

Another game where we took Alabama to overtime as double digit underdogs.
Not to mention beating them as huge dogs in 2010.
Your comment that Miles would have gotten blown out last year in Tiger Stadium is just absurd and you should be embarrassed

I agree, particularly on the DL. I don't think depth is as big of a deal on the OL until you start running into injuries. We should be relatively healthy on the OL for the Bama game.
But, I also dont think that this is the first year we are at a talent disadvantage against Bama, and I dont think its as significant as some people like to make it out to be.

We can count on more of that if the game's outcome is in question...

uh....21-0 is a blowout right?
how about 38-17?
30-16?
and 21-0 with his best team EVER...he was such a great fricking coach he didn't change his gameplan from when his offense scored 9 pts in OT AND had no answer to try and change that gameplan in the most important game of the year. That is inexcusable not to try JL or spreading the field in a game for the championship. At least with CEO I have seen adjustments at half time.
