80's were 40 years ago and that final four under Brady was no fluke.

Why did you leave out the 80's?
Why did you start at '93?

How many final 4s have we been to since then?
Anomaly
something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.
Since the “Golden Age”, where we appeared in a final 4 in 81 and 86, we have been to 1 final four in 2006. 19 years ago.
3 total final fours in 44 years.
Hence, LSU men’s basketball appearing in a final four is NOT the normal or expected.
I know this may be hard for you, since your best insult is to assume I “live with mommy and daddy”, but historically as a program, LSU men’s basketball has NOT been successful.
Successful programs are measured by final fours and National Championships. If you want to say appearing in the tournament every few years is successful, then be my guest. But I define success of a program by natties and semifinals.
Maybe it’s time to check your standards
TLDR: LSU has appeared in 3 final 4s in 44 years, with no national championship. We are a mediocre program.

because I said since the early 90s we had been a cellar dwelling program...which is true, so I provided the yearly results to support that claim
my first post in that thread was this
quote:
no we're not. We have some final fours, which is really our only bragging rights in basketball. We're tied for 6th in NCAAT appearances with Alabama. We're actually ahead of Florida there, but they also have two national titles. We're not top 5 in all time wins or winning percentage. We are a program who has gone on some mini-runs of being good. The only time we have been consistently competitive for more than a handful of years at a time was when Dale Brown was the coach, and his run of being competitive ended in 1993, over 30 years ago. Brady was terrible outside a few seasons. Johnson and Jones were generally bad too outside a few years collectively. That is exactly why people romanticize how good Will Wade was
someone then responded to me with this
quote:
Rank the top half of the league since you've got it all figured out.
So then I provided how LSU finished in the league in that time period.
So no, I wasn't cherry picking. I acknowledged and accounted for Dale Brown's run already. Do you need a thesis paper written for every post? Or are you smart enough to follow a thread?
Or maybe you don't like hearing the truth that LSU been a middle of the road to poor basketball program for the vast majority of its existence. Dale Brown's run was an extreme outlier. It was also a long time ago at this point. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.
Or can I add the 40s, 50s, 60s, and most of the 70s as well? Do you need all of that? We had a 25 year gap between appearances in the NCAAT in there. Or do you only want to talk about the 80s and 2006? Sure seems like the latter
I also love when people bring up Pete Maravich as some badge of honor of how good our program and leave out the part where we never made the NCAAT with him

# of Final Fours in the past 44 years with no championships:
Purdue 1
Alabama 1
Gonzaga 2
Auburn 1
Illinois 2
Wisconsin 3
Marquette 1
Iowa St. 0
Tennessee 0
Missouri 0
Creighton 0
BYU 0
If you did not know, getting to the final four is pretty hard.

Being successful is not easy, nice list of schools, now list the ones with 5 plus in the past 44 years. Those are your successful schools in basketball

The schools with 5 plus final fours in the last 44 years are all blue bloods.

Also known as SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS.
I’ve clearly defined success for you guys. I’m not sure what point you’re missing

Baseball was atrocious until the mid to late 90's.
Prior to that LSU was really a basketball school

Expecting a turnaround or any sort of contending for championships soon is just unrealistic and wishful thinking, when a sample size that large proves that fact.
I mean we just fired a guy who proved it could be done... Thus the reason why so many are upset with the state of the program

That guy was also dumb enough to get recorded.

Did you miss the CWS appearances in 86, 87, 89, 90, along with the championship in 1991 and 1993?
Did you mean the mid/late 80’s?

No, in their heads we’re a basketball school and were never a baseball school.

For the record, I’m MUCH more of a basketball fan than a baseball fan. But I’m also a fan of correct facts in any argument.
LSU wasn’t a “baseball school” until one man made them such. Same for basketball, though to a lesser degree because LSU had guys like Maravich and Petit.
Any fight about baseball school vs basketball school is stupid. A school can have BOTH a great basketball program and baseball program…if they can find the right leader. Right now LSU basketball simply doesn’t have that. FAR from it. But this doesn’t mean you just throw your hands up a say “oh well”, at least we have baseball. Having a shitty men’s basketball program means the department is leaving a LOT of potential money/noteriety on the table. Second only to football. LSU basketball was very good before. It can be again
