I personally think he actually enjoyed coaching and being the best, so really the only thing holding him back from taking the LSU job is because he thinks he's too old and wont be able to do a great job. That's why from the start I thought it was possible to convince him to come here.

My take is, Saban is a very competitive person. It's hard to compete in retirement mode. He's had 2 years to study the new rules. He probably has strong ideas about how to run a successful program in this environment. He's like Trump - he will give it up in his 80s. His staff will do the heavy lifting, he will set the process, tone and standards. Thomas and staff will handle NIL and portal. That's my take. But I could be wrong. Maybe he likes retirement.
I know from experience - retirement takes a while to get used to if you are an active competitive person. Don't retire unless you have a good idea what you are going to do.

My take on it is that LSU fans love to make shite up, spread it all over the Internet, and then have everybody comment on it

Logic says the dude's retired and wants to stay that way. But money talks. Everyone has a number.

All of what you said above is true, but you ever hear the saying a even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while?

Cautiously optimistic, but realistically not expecting it to happen whatsoever

this is also my take. He could take bright young coaches and teach them what it takes to be a championship coach, and take over the helm when Saban said enough is enough. that is how young coaches learn and progress, and there would be no better teacher for success than Saban. LSU would benefit in the short and long run.
This is my main reason for even considering Saban at this time. He has something to offer LSU football, and it is something that LSU is in dire need of at this time. Quite frankly, the timing couldn't be better or more timely for Saban to return.

I want him to come back, but only if he wears a purple and gold houndstooth hat or jacket

Saban is 74 and the idea of him coming back to LSU and being successful (CFP trophy) is way too good to be true.

Does he feel disrespected that people assume he couldn't win in the NIL era?
the only reason I could see him actually coming back..feel like this is the stain on his otherwise perfect resume. Also a championship would give him titles in 3 different eras.
1. BCS
2. 4 team Playoffs
3. 12 team playoffs NIL/Portal

Why would he come to LSU? If you still don’t know why after all the stories that’s been told about Sabans connection and love for LSU to this day and his regrets of leaving LSU then we can’t help you.
ok, let me re-phrase the question: “why would he come out of retirement at this point to come to LSU?”. I know it’s well documented that he may regret leaving LSU and he enjoyed his time here and has connections, etc. but it still wouldn’t explain to me why he would come out of retirement and come coach here or anywhere for that matter. I know he doesn’t regret his time at Bama, at all and he doesn’t regret retiring when he did, and he clearly doesn’t need money, so my original question is still valid.

The amount of $$$ it would take to get saban we should use to buy more free agents.

Landscape has changed
