What's the real story behind Clifton Garrett?

He just committed to UAB after playing a season at Arizona Western College. Knowing that LSU will be very thin at LB next year, why wouldn't he come back here? He should have 3 more years' eligibility.
Was there a discipline issue? Is he just not eligible to come back (one and done)? I thought the climate was the problem, but Birmingham has pretty much the same hot, humid climate as BR.
I really don't know. Appreciate any insight.

He wasn't that good. He was slow and had weight issues.
Remember when some of the AA game practice highlights came out and he looked terrible and everyone freaked out? Well...turns out those people were right.

He didnt have an offer to come back here. He was vastly overrated, that's why he just ended up at a team that wont exist until 2017.

How can the highschool recruiting world screw up the ratings of a player so bad?

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize he was that bad. Hope he has a nice career at UAB.
In the meantime, we've GOT to get some LBs next year.

It's always hard to predict how good a kid is when he has crap for competition.

Would probably solve a lot of his problems.

Give the kid a chance, he has yet to play.
But to try to answer your question, the recruiting services favor the measureables heavily, and Clifton has great size for his position. It is also hard to gauge the talent in high school competition outside of states like Texas, Florida, Louisiana, etc.

There is no real story. If he were as good as projected, he would have committed to somewhere better than UAB. There's a reason why he didn't go an visit schools like A&M, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and so on. He wouldn't have gotten an offer.

who knows if they really did.
Normal Freshman who can't get on the field; let's wait and see, usually won't truly produce until Jr year. Give him a year or 2 in the program
Freshman that couldnt make an impact then leaves next year: He was terrible, he was fat, he was overrated.
Our fans are ridiculous. We didnt see enough of this kid to tell if he wasnt good or not.

Arizona Western College is in Yuma, AZ. The hottest town in Arizona! If he can play in that heat, then he can play anywhere.......

He was getting out worked by walk ons for playing time in the spring, that's all on him. At Arizona Western JC he is 5th on the team in tackles among just their LINEBACKERS.
Sometimes guys are just massively overrated, hell, it happens to guys who go to the NFL too. Recruiting and Scouting are not exact sciences.

The climate/humidity issue should be much different in Birmingham than it was in Baton Rouge.

Team sweep...
Rashard Robinson was at LSU but not on team then he goes back to Florida. No one knew was involved in Jennings' stolen electronics until Jennings got in trouble for retrieving them.
It helps neither garret nor LSU to try and specify but it is my opinion he would have stayed and contributed had his performance on the field been the only factor.
Hope he does well at UAB.

He won't be able to play at UAB until 2017
He gets a redshirt year in 2016, he complained about LSU wanting to redshirt him his first year here

He'll be a redshirt junior in 2017, same with Bain I believe too.
