What’s the outlook on LSU Softball this year?

First game is on the 8th, curious to see if Beth can get us to the World Series this year. Are we bringing back most the of team from last year?

She has to be done if she doesn’t, IMO. Only coach that hasn’t been replaced at this point. First mention about softball that I’ve seen should be a huge giveaway that nobody is paying attention. Lackluster results and recruiting in recent years. Slipping away in mediocrity.
SEC welcomes OK and TX next year so there’s that. Besides Clearwater tourney there’s not much on the ooc weekend schedule.

This charade has gone on long enough. Beth cannot recruit the caliber of players needed to win championships. She is a middle of the road coach who luckily comes across a few talented players once in a while. Her demeaner shows a lack of energy and excitement, qualities that many of her fellow coaches show when we play them.

Not to defend her but the only team raising any hardware lately has been Oklahoma and that juggernaut, everyone else has been playing for second place.
It's been awhile since SEC has won one.
She at least needs to get back to WCWS with this veteran team because next season will be like starting over.

I feel like the opposite is true. She gets great recruits and then squanders their talent. As a former pitcher, her pitchers have been mediocre. Their offense was a little improved last year, but overall they generally under perform at the plate. The decline of the softball program has been gradual, but consistent.

I have to say there’s some merit here. A lot of recruiting gurus—not just message board hacks—thought Maci Bergeron’s hitting would vault this team up into contender status. Unfortunately Maci is another highly regarded hitter who has been Dobson-ized and is benched and struggling.
One positive: Hannah Carson returns from injury and should provide some veteran leadership.
One negative: that idiot is still the “face” of the program.
But yeah, if it was up to me, Beth makes OKC this year with a handful of vets in their fifth year or it’s time to pull the plug.

It will be interesting to see how Woodward handles Beth if this team disappoints yet again. It would normally seem like a good time to get a new staff in there with all the turnover that's going to happen BUT Torina signed that extension in '21 that would make her buyout just under $1 million to end her contract after this season.
There is no Mulkey hire out there (I don't think you could pay Gasso enough to ever leave OU) but it would still take a significant amount of money to go get a top name coach who could turn the program around in a hurry, I just don't know if Scott or any of the boosters are willing to pay that much for a softball coach.

Yep, write her off because she was unable to pull the team to championship level as a true freshman.

Bergeron didn’t have a good year as a freshman. I still believe she will be the heart of this team. She is too good to not improve. The natural talent is there.

Beth is one of those coaches that think real talent is found everywhere but Louisiana. She needs to recruit the home state first. Having said that she will do about as good as last year.
