Woodward is the one who should be on the hot seat, that's an atrocious, one-sided deal for a guy like Kelly

Fans DEMAND a "home run hire". Same for the donors.
Well....there are very few guys who fit that criteria and every one of them has ALL of the negotiating leverage. When one side holds all of the leverage you either meet their demands or hire someone else. Fans wanted Woodward to do whatever it took to make a "big" hire. The contract is "whatever it took".

recruituing.
He has to lock down, and keep and objectively top 5 class.. or a few of them. It hasn't happened yet on Dec 19.

I get that, that's still a flawed approach, hell, even the dumbasses over in faggieland realized that there has to be a different approach after their Fisher fiasco

Perhaps. However, the only other approach is to hire a less accomplished HC and hope he's the "next big thing". Most schools take that approach. Generally because they don't have another option. But would LSU fans be willing to accept something less than a "home run" hire?

Honestly, the first contract to Jimbo wasn't that bad. It was in the immediacy. But had it remained in place his annual salary over the life of the contract would have been very reasonable as the coaching salary market continued to inflate. Where they screwed up was giving Jimbo a big extension after a moderately successful 2020 season.
Often times it's not the initial contract that is the killer. It's being leveraged into an unnecessary extension that is the killer. See Orgeron. I don't care how great 2019 was. He wasn't getting a better deal on the open market than what he had at LSU. Yet, it got and extension/raise because he "deserved" it. Not because someone else was willing to poach him from LSU.
Read the market!
I remember when John Brady tried to use NC State to leverage a (then) big contract from LSU after the Final Four appearance. In response, Skip flatly said "If NC State is willing to pay John that amount, he should take it." Of course, they weren't and he didn't. But I bet LSU was glad they didn't have an onerous contract around their neck when Brady sucked the next season and they wanted to fire him 1/2 through the second season.
The only downside with BK is he got his contract before everyone fully appreciated the NIL marketplace. One where having enough money to pay great players is more important that spending a ton on the HC. What good is a high priced HC if paying his salary leaves less money to buy great players?

Exactly this Alt.
I want BK to work out as much as anyone for our financial sake
I’m praying this is a Harbaugh-lite situation and being elite takes a bit longer. Hopefully this year bears fruit.
Hypothetically if we go 6-6 this season and heads begin to roll for 2026, I don’t see any big fish candidates we’d be able to pick away from their job. For Lanning alone, close to 11m annually would have to be the starting offer. I think our fanbase would like Coach Dilly at ASU (cheaper option), but he needs more skins on the wall.

What would it take for you to post less? Are you hoping for something? I’m hoping we go undefeated and win another Championship. There. Go be negative somewhere else. The season hasn’t even friggin started and you’re asking this crap??

For me it is losing games we have no business losing. If we lose the opener most emotional fans will be up in arms, but there is a possibility that Clemson is a national title contender. But lose to Arky or get embarassed against Aggie and it will piss me off. We should be better than these squads by a decent margin.

Another 8-4 year would be a TRUE hotseat. A 9-3 year would have fans (including myself most likely) bitching but Woodward wouldn't be close to hitting the eject button.

I’d say he’s already on a warm seat. Another opening season loss (especially if there are multiple mistakes), would put him on a hot seat. IMO, he have to recover and make the playoffs.
_______
Nope. We play an entire season.

I'd be surprised if you see any more BK or Lincoln Riley type hires (i.e. one big time P4 program poaching a successful HC from another big time P4 program). When you didn't have to pay the players (at least to the degree they are being paid now), the school/donors could throw huge money at a HC. Now, the market for players is only going to increase with no end in sight. It might be hard for the schools to justify a massive HC contract when they know they are going to need ever increasing funds to buy him players.
Hell, when it is all said and done we may look back one day and say LSU was (one of) the last schools to fire a HC for paying players (Wade) before it became "legal" and one of the last schools to lock in a HC to a massive contract (Kelly) before the HC market plateaued.

Must make playoffs to keep his job

This is the year for Kelly. Returning experienced QB who had heisman potential, solid WR’’s, solid defense, and experienced coaches….
If he doesn’t get a playoff win, he’s on the hot seat

Seat on Fire? Lose to Clemson and then shite the bed against Florida two weeks later!
If the Tigers were to manage losing two years in a row to Sunbelt Billy Boy (And in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday Night) the plug should be pulled right then and there.
Butter Kreme should be matriculated out of Baton Rouge if that happens. He be gone wit da most rapid acceleration.
Let Blake Baker finish out the season as Interim HC.
Nick Saban as HC in 26, with Jon Gruden as OC/HC in Waiting.
Keep the entire Defensive Staff and let Gruden hire his Offensive Staff......

Sunbelt Billy has Florida with as much talent on its roster as Alabama currently has so I would probably drop the nickname and just look at the objective facts had that guy got a guy like lagway a year earlier we wouldn't even be having this conversation
