Alabama is the state school known for business, law, liberal arts, etc. Auburn is known for ag. fields and engineering. It makes sense to me that UA would be disproportionately represented in an office setting.

Fair enough but all things considered those numbers are still staggering. Just look at LSU and Tulane. I would say in a place like St. Tammany the numbers are 3 to 1 LSU to Tulane and there are MUCH bigger prohibitive differences between those schools. Like Tulane is 3 times more expensive, private, has a much larger out-of-state student body by percentage and has less than half as much enrollment.

SECHQ still isnt 3 to 1 Gump to Barner. Try 9 to 1, if that.

Because it is not realistic. Do you stop hiring one school's grads because they get to 20% even though their grad is clearly the best for the conference?

I agree that its not common but not realistic? Why not? Its not impossible or even difficult. Hasnt stopped Affirmative Action.

I agree it may place some undue burden on hiring the best candidate but I would think that with a draw like the ability to place "Southeastern Conference employment" on your resume, there would still be a pretty sizeable talent pool to select from.

It also assumes that people can't be objective just because they graduated from a certain school. That's not true for everyone.

Youre right. Not true for everyone. But certainly true for most people. Whether consciously or not. And its true enough, often enough, to make placing safeguards against it a worthy and noble goal. Unless you take the apathetic, "well, whatcha gonna do?" approach that most Lousisianians take. That approach hasnt bode well for this State.

That the SEC office exists to support Bama at the detriment of the other schools.

Never stated this. Never even implied this. Yall assume too much. I said there could be an explicit bias but I also said it very well could be implicit. Or hell. Not at all! I just thought the numbers were interesting and unnerving and believe steps should be taken to start correcting it if for no other reason than public perception. These hacks talk all the time about "optics". shite, UT just scrapped a plan to bring in their new head coach because of "optics".

You weren't just providing facts. You were providing facts to make a point. And the point is the conspiracy.

Again, I have my own opinions but it wasnt my goal to push an agenda or conspiracy. I provided numbers I found. If you extrapolated that to mean something I didnt intend I think it says more about what you believe than me.

And Alabama has them now. Maybe that, and not the percentage of grads from UA in the conference office, is the real story.

Elaborate.

Mother of god.

Thats a whole 'nuther convo. The college football fans in that State are rabid and that lends itself to corruption and crazy. Just look at the shite their fans do. Especially Gumps. They literally have no other sports, amateur or pro, in the State. Maybe college basketball or baseball from time to time but nothing on the level of Gump & Barn football.

LSU fans are rabid but we have more perspective. Maybe because we love life more and in Alabama, life sucks other than football. Most fanbases always put Saints and LSU fans up as the most hospitable. You get a "Tiger Bait!" and then a bowl of gumbo.

We dont kill trees or beat the shite out of our family members because LSU or the Saints lost. Living in LA we are used to losing.

A slight, but only slight exaggeration. The little old ladies at the courthouse decorate their cubicles either blue and orange or crimson and white the Friday before games. That is no exaggeration.

There is no bigger rivalry than Alabama and Auburn. None. Nothing in college football is even close.

So strange to me, growing up in LA. I root for ALL things LA. Yes, even ULL.

I was so excited when LA had 4 teams in the top 25 in baseball. LSU, Tulame, ULL Ragin' Jealousy and Southeastern Lyins.

My take away is that 85% of the people that graduate from the University of Alabama work at the SECHQ.

Thanks.

...for the good of the conference they should push the best team in the conference over the best teams in other conferences.

First of all, frick the conference. Last year, LSU did nothing wrong during the UF debacle, but was very publicly admonished by THE LEAGUE because we, who didn’t want to lose out on the revenue of a regular season game after a historic flood no more than two months earlier, wouldn’t allow those UF pussies and the SEC to strong arm is into a deal that screwed us. Pay us our cut of the revenue and frick off.

To the OP, a study was done in the last year that shows that game officials in every league’s calls went decidedly for the most highly ranked team in the conference. Believe it or not, the balance was tipped toward bama, but less so than most other conferences. What that analysis failed to consider, though, were non-calls. I have only my anecdotal experience from which to draw a conclusion, but the year that bama was not called for holding all year suggests to me that the disparity of calls in bama’s favor would be much higher if they’d figured out a way to fairly consider non-calls. (it would be difficult, of course, because holding could be called on every play, but the consistency with which they’re not called seems compelling to this humble homer)

Just look at this fricking gif. Have you ever seen something so blatantly biased in a football game? That ref shouldve been tarred and feathered.

If these morons understood the job duties at SEC head quarters then they would understand the bias. The no calls against Bama makes you wonder.

The premise of the OP that the employees in the SEC office should be approximately equal is one of the more moronic things I have read on tRant, and that is no small feat.

Like I previously said, it's people like you who are an embarrassment to our fan base.

This whole thread is just cringeworthy. You know damn well you were stating all this trying to prove some kind of bias by the SEC to prop up Bama. Then, things didn't really go how you thought, so you backed out and said you were just providing numbers. However, any time someone disagreed with you, you got defensive and acted like a smug a-hole.

Get over yourself and take your tinfoil hat off. Ok, more graduates from the university of Alabama work in the SEC offices that are headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. You feel better now for pointing that out?

I was driving back from Knoxville and thinking same thing passing through Birmingham. Why is the SEC HQ so full of Bama alumni instead of equally divided between Auburn, UAB and some USA/HBCU alumni? I know Tuscaloosa is an hour away but that's still some shady arse bullshite they should avoid for the mere image aspect. But they blatantly hire Bama grads and don't give a frick. Time for the HQ to move to Atlanta. Dilly Dilly.

I dont know. Alabama fans and even some pussy-arse LSU "fans"(probably Gump alters or weak LSU fans who have their hearts stolen out of their chests by Nick Saban) dont seem to think this is a problem. They even think we are "embarrassments" for even pointing it out.

How dare we point out facts! Who do we think we are?!

It's a message board. They can frick off. It's a valid question for the conference with 6 of its members in the top 10 schools by revenue.
Schools ranked by revenue.
The push to have the HQ moved to Atlanta or Nashville isn't new. Less bias and much broader talent pool.
