but he didn't play Urban's style and he was never Urban's recruit.
Joe wasn't really Urban's recruit, either. Tom Herman convinced him to bring Joe in

Haskins threw for 50 TDs and was drafted in the first. It’s not like picked a total dud over Burrow.

Frost was the coach at Nebraska in spring of 2018 when he had a chance to take burrow as a transfer.
Both of his brothers and his father played at Nebraska. Frost fricked up big time.

Urban was unable to see what he had in Joe? He’ll probably never admit it publicly, but that has to go down as one of Urban’s biggest regrets as a coach.
I'm not even sure it would crack the biggest regret top 10 list for Meyer. That dude has quite a laundry list of stupid decisions ... and that's not even going back more than about a year lol.

That UCF douche cheap shotted him and it flipped the switch.
We would have cheered an LSU player for a hit like that, in fact we did.

Broke finger put him behind Haskins, a good college QB—but Joe has “IT” can’t teach it , can’t buy it, can’t coach it, some people just have “IT” and Joe has “IT” Thank GOD we had it too!

remember that 2018 wasn't all sunshine and daisies. it took time.
He was playing with an undisclosed injury. I feel like an arse for comparing him that year to Mettenberger. I had no idea Joe was playing hurt.

Haskins beat Michigan
Burrow injury set him back

He grew up a full year at LSU. He had it in him for sure but hadn’t harnessed it.

but for me, Joe became "Heisman Joe" during the overtime "loss" to A&M.
It was all there from the very beginning.
Dude was a team leader before his first snap in the pregame scuffle with Miami, showed his command at the line of scrimmage with his audible to the Brosette long TD run after reading the defense, picture perfect TD throw in the comeback road win over Auburn, and dissected a great Georgia defense in a huge upset win in his coming out party in Tiger Stadium.
The rest of the team hadn’t been around him long enough to make the jump with him in 2018, just like Cincy last year, but he is the rising tide that lifts all boats.

If Joe goes to Nebraska he is coaching high school football right now!! Everything played out perfectly for him!

Haskins couldn't hold Joe's jock strap. How is Haskins doing these days?
Posted on 1/31/22 at 8:05 am to NPComb
He also needed some actual game time for experience. At the end of the year it really started clicking for him.

I’m very happy Burrow was overshadowed.

Haskins checks the boxes coaches and scouts look for (and place WAY too much emphasis on, similar to 40 times), height and arm strength. Joe is not the tallest, but tall enough, does not have the strongest arm, but strong enough. What he DOES have is all of the intangibles, that "it" factor, accuracy, decision making, leadership, he is a true franchise QB.

Do you think every player is exactly what he will alway be at every point starting in High School? Ever heard of development? Maybe players change over time? Get better? Work harder? Learn from different coaches even in the pros?
FFS Ohio State went with Haskins he had a monster season and was Heisman finalist

Urban Meyer never wanted to recruit him. An assistant had to really beg him to take Joe. Urban thought his arm strength was not good enough. Urban is not that smart nor good enough of a judge of talent. Joe has all the intangibles that aren't fully measurable; leadership, work ethic, and competitive spirit...

Actually, Joe and Dwayne Haskins were in a tight battle for the starting job when Joe broke his hand and set him back and behind Haskins. And I believe it required surgery. At that point, Joe decided to transfer. Plus, Haskins had a super year in setting several Big Ten records so it's kind of hard to blame anybody in this case
