That would suck for any Louisiana player to have to "go elsewhere" after playing for LSU for one or two seasons, especially a Baton Rouge product like Sciambra.

Adam - one question I had all year. McMullen was a CF for Brother Martin in the Catholic league and with Delgado. I wondered all year why he got so few chances in the OF. Especially with Stenven struggling so badly at the plate . Maybe hes not a D1 CF but why not play him in RF, move Laird to CF and get a better bat in the lineup? Is he such a defensive liability that this was not an option?

He doesn't have the speed or glove to take over at CF when you have Laird and Stevenson right behind him. I see McMullen shifting over to LF or RF next year. The only reason he and Foster platooned in RF this past year at times was because Foster had the much stronger arm.

Right, I agree he should compete to start in RF or LF but I was wondering if he's considered a below average fielder and that's why down the stretch we never saw a lineup with him in RF and Laird in CF - in effect remove Stevenson to get a better bat in the lineup. Every time I read the starting lineup it made me think McMullen's defensive skills must be lacking which does not bode well since he's likely to start in the OF next year.

How bout Laird as the lead off batter with his speed(10 for 18 Super Regional/CWS)?? And McMullen hitting #2 with more pop in his bat??
McMullen is more than capable as an outfielder...just too much other talent in the OF

Can't wait for M. Laird to get a little muscle & start hitting to the alleys. May lead SEC in doubles/triples.

only problem is that it sucks to get excited....only to get ultimately dissapointed, perhaps. The team can't get much better than '13. And look what happened in the end

That's what following sports teams are all about. You go emotionally all in on the teams you follow and when they lose, you go broke. But when they win...

Not trying to be negative, but I don't foresee Laird really putting on muscle. His speed is what makes him so deadly.

I brought this over from the SEC rant.
Longhi has a great opportunity to start at 1B and to hit somewhere 4-6. I don't see any way that PM will start McMullen in the outfield when he has guys like DeHart and Fraley coming in. I think McMullen will stick to his DH spot. We can all agree that there will be ALOT of competition at 2B with Robertson, Dean, Hale, and even Zardon.
Don't sleep on Newman and Reynolds for that Sunday starter spot with the other playing a big roll out of the bullpen. I think mid week will be a mix of Sewald and incoming freshman, but Sewald has been coming out of the pen on his summer league team.
