Do you think PM will give "loyalty" and guarantee Mcmullen an outfield spot? Seems like wasted defense with all that talent back there. Not that I'm saying Mcmullen is bad in OF...just that we have a lot of potential there. If Stevenson is a dead bat again next year I'd like to see him stay on the bench and try someone else. Put Laird at CF.

Chinea is going to play 1B for his summer team. Is he a better fit there, or is he still supposed to be in the running for the C spot?

I don't think he would hold a spot for McMullen with such depth and competition. It's almost a forgone conclusion that one of Fraley/DeHart will find an opening with their talent.
I agree the only way Stevenson and Laird play together next year at the same time would result from a major overhaul from Stevenson's average.

Another good question.
Chinea was brought here for his bat...he's going to improve behind the plate but we will soon see Chinea's glove will not standout as Ross did. Some say Barash will turn out to be the better backstop, but for now both will compete for the starting role.
Also don't be surprised to see Chinea anywhere from C/1B/DH. His power potential will steadily increase over the next 3 years.

someone said where is Reynolds, he's not going to be back until 2015. He had surgery, and is presumed to be out for 2014 Season rehabbing.

The more you look at this team the more I see an identity start to form.
The power threats will come from
Chinea, Bregman, Ibarra, and DeHart/Longhi
Speedsters
Laird, Stevenson, Fraley, Robertson, McMullen, Bregman
Hit for Average
Bregman, Ibarra, Longhi, McMullen, Laird
Power Lineup
1. Laird CF (L)
2. Robertson 2B (R)
3. Bregman SS (R)
4. Ibarra 3B (R)
5. Chinea C (R)
6. Moore 1B (L)
7. Longhi DH (R)
8. DeHart RF (L)

Putting his big bats in the 3-4-5 holes he can build the lineup around those three and put speed at the top and bottom of the order. 6-7-8 would also pose a potential power threat occasionally.
If he's looking for speed, he'll have Fraley/Stevenson in an outfield spot along with a DH.
Pitch hitters and runners will not be at a deficit next year.

We will have some power, more speed and quickness, good fielding and infield, fast outfield, and more small ball potential (steals, bunts, etc.),
But IMO it comes down to 2 cliche' things:
Pitching and timely hitting.
Can we replace Eades, Cotton, Rumbelow, Lamarche,
etc.? (Especially Cotton)
Can we replace Katz, Jones, and Rhymes?

With Rhymes, Katz, Ross, and Jones leaving, I think you're losing much more than offensive and defensive production. They were your leaders. Nola, by himself (even without Cotton), can solidify a staff that will see a few guys taking on different roles, but who will be those every-day guys who lead this team next year? I know you're mostly a personnel evaluator, but can you provide any insight into this?

Agree. My seats are near 3b so I have a good line on the secondary leads our guys get and I'd say "raw" describes Laird, Stevenson and McMullen. Bregman has less speed but is a much better base runner. Makes me wonder how the other three can play HS ball and with their speed not be any better at stealing bases. I just read where we finished 204th in the nation in SB's. With the speed on this team, that's really hard to understand.
I agree that those 3 need to work on this starting today and continue all through the fall/winter. No reason we shouldn't be top 20 in this stat next year and that would have a dramatic effect on our offense.

I don't know if you guys talked about this yet but switching McMullen and Laird would be ideal. Laird is your typical leadoff guy and McMullen is your typical #2 guy with a little power.

I agree. I think if laird wouldn't have gotten in his slump in the middle of the season he MIGHT have been moved to the leadoff spot.

Adam, you've made me comfortable with the power, average, and speed on the offensive side for 2014. I am concerned with the big loss of pitching.
Eades was a Saturday/Sunday starter. Cotton was a lights out closer with 16 saves. Bourgeois and Rumbelow were solid in the 7th/8th inning set-up role. Bonvillain ate up innings in long middle relief.
Dunn and the newcomers will be crucial for 2014, based on the quality/quantity we are losing. It is a huge task to replace these seven guys:

There definently will be an identity change in the way the team interacts and who they lean on. Losing a guy like Katz and Ross vocally in the dugout will sting a bit. What I do agree on is this being Bregman's team moving forward. Don't forget LSU is bringing in an outstanding class with guys who are used to winning. The key will be if they follow Bregman's work ethic and push each other rather than becoming complacent. I'd be looking to see how fast Chinea matures behind the plate, he'll be needed if LSU is going to have a solid year.
The pitching is going to be top heavy. Nola will be great, Glenn should have a more consistent year as a solid Saturday guy. Poche is a guy I think will have a prominent role next year. There will be competitions well throughout the fall for bullpen spots. Guys like Bugg and Whitty will become big time prospects in a couple years when their bodies fill out.
