Or even pay a Coach that loses 80% of his Conference games, makes 3mill a year owed 12, to pony up donations for players that were making $300 and a free Wendy’s card to transfer to said school to make 15-20x that to now lose 80% of their Conference games. I know an AD that’s doing this exact idea and he loses 0$ and us peon fans pay the price. I won’t mention any names to protect the guilty!

That train left the station a LONG time ago. It was just the schools and fans were happy to ignore that reality.

Major conference college sports are a multi-million/billion dollar entertainment BUSINESS. The conferences have media rights contracts would hundreds of millions (billions for the SEC and Big 10). The schools/athletic departments take in several millions in revenue each year. The players are crucial part of that massive revenue generating business. Why should they not get a reasonable share of the amount of revenue

If no one was willing to pay $2M, $3M, $4M+ to an 18 year old QB to play for a certain school then the QB wouldn't be paid that amount. Clearly a marketplace exist for those services outside the NFL (and other pro sports leagues). It's basic capitalism and simple supply/demand. The demand for exceptional athletes at the major conf level is high...and the supply is low.

College Sports flair is dying off
college sports as we knew it a few years ago is DEAD. And I'm not sure it will ever come back.

I'll still watch the games, but my emotional attachment to the team and players is FAR, FAR less than it was a few years ago. And I'm afraid it will continue to dwindle.

What makes one "deserving" of a certain amount of money? If a kid is a really gifted musician, artist, scientist, etc at a young age and his/her services are in such high demand that multi-million dollar companies and/or just fans are competing to pay huge sums for those services would you say the kid doesn't "deserve" that kind of money?

Who pays for Musicians? Fans?

Who pays for college athletes? Does college basketball tickets pay millions of dollars?
The system is broken. Its just a matter of time before the wheels come off.

She could take a pay cut and use that money to pay her players, but sure, we have to keep being responsible for covering their ridiculous salaries and then pay the players too.

This shite is ridiculous across the board, and college sports is now dead.

Wealthy donors/business/fan collectives pay them.

Major conf. schools basketball ticket revenues generally range from $1M - $4M annually.

The TV/media contract between CBS/Turner Sports and the NCAA for the NCAA Tournament ALONE generates annual revenue between $900M - $1 Billion. That's JUST the NCAA Tournament.

Maybe so.

But if there is a market for a 17/18 year old kid to earn multi-millions for his ability as a football and basketball then it's hard to say he doesn't "deserve" it. Clearly someone things he does.

Fine. Let the “marketplace” pay for them. The problem with the marketplace is the cost of goods and services go up to cover the costs. Nil could have started around $100,000 and a cap put in place to control it. But no, let’s give them millions. Some 18 year old that can’t hardly spell, but is physically gifted reaping huge amounts of money. Our society is upside down.

we already have professional sports, which I care nothing about.

We don't need another pro league.

Mulkey explained that none of the big women's basketball programs make money — not LSU, not UConn, not Tennessee, not even South Carolina, a program that generated nearly $5.9 million in revenue in fiscal year 2024. The program's expenses, however, were at $11.5 million, resulting in a $5.6 million loss.

Ridiculous

This wouldn’t change anything. You can’t cap endorsements, and some boosters will always be willing to up the ante to give their program an advantage.

Yes you can if there’s a collective bargaining agreement that lays out the rules everyone has to play by for the betterment of everyone.

I agree with your post completely. But can you imagine the clown show of bringing 1,100 college athletic directors (NCAA D1, 2 & 3) together on one side of the bargaining table with someone trying to represent 520,000 college athletes on the other side. We’re talking about the Bryce Underwood’s of the world all the way down to the worst D3 player from a random sport.

This might be more entertaining than the actual games.

It’s a totally different gig.

I don’t blame any of these coaches.

You did read the reason WBB loses money, right? TV contracts, otherwise LSU womens BB would be making plenty of money. More and more people, both men and women, are watching women's basketball BB. Maybe contracts need to be reworked
That would help .

So you think if college women’s basketball had their own TV contracts LSU’s women’s basketball program would turn profit? What do you think that contract would be valued at?

Watching the games is why this bullshite exists. The college fan is responsible for this crap, and has total control of this crap. Turn it off, for just one year and this house of cards collapses.

Yep. We reap the fruit of the NIL era when hall of game coaches are reduced to salesmen raising money. Look for Kim to retire within two years.
