I remember hearing about him when he was headed to LSU and when he left. He recently committed to Tech and is currently our 2nd best recruit according to 24/7

He was an offensive lineman that couldn't get on the field when LSU was hurting like crazy for offensive linemen.

So there's that.

He's a solid C-USA player. He will do well there, IMO.

he's not SEC caliber. He peaked in high school early on. When higher schoolers he was competing with started to mature, he didn't improve much. I like to call it the Freak Johnson curse.

Well he left before we were hurting like crazy for OL. Which is part of the reason we were hurting.

Should do well, he’d be at TCU if he wasn’t blocked. Seemed like his heart was never in it at LSU

I don’t think that block applies now though, why didn’t TCU pick him up this cycle?

He’s a project. He started as a 5* because of his size and potential but plummeted down the rankings when he attended camps. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jan.

True, but he did peak early and improve little.

Actually, False. Freak was NOT a three year starter. In fact, I think he only started one year.

And has been on and off of NFL active rosters/practice rosters, currently with the Colts.

No but he did get significant playing time as a Freshmen and was a full time starter as a Junior.

He wasn't a bust, but didn't progress to achieve the 5* status that was expected.

Allen was a big guy in high school who seemed to peak early. The buzz on him was higher his sophomore and junior years. By the time he became a high school senior some talent raters had cooled on him.

He's not a mauler. If he masters his OL technique he has the size and ability to do well. If not, he won't.

My son had a youth football game the same night as the Auburn game in 2016 at Little Farms in River Ridge. Willie Allen was there just hanging out at the park while LSU was playing Auburn. I found that really strange for a redshirting 5 star that he wasn’t at least watching the game.

Once on campus, someone (or several) saw something about him they did not like at all.

Before on campus, plenty saw enough to like.

I think Solo Cam nailed it.

MAYBE with an attitude adjustment things can/will be different. But we didn't see enough of him to know if it's something 'technical', e.g. footwork, strength, etc. We're going off inferences and indirect evidence.

But several here are right, there was not a lot of tears shed (just some anger over TCU inappropriate contact).

Didnt have the desire to stick around and compete. Really had high hopes for him coming out of HS but he let a lot of people get in his ear telling him he was a lot better than how he was actually performing. Hopefully he can buckle down and work hard for a starting spot at Tech.
