think here are legit concerns about the offense and QB is one of them.

Perhaps etling doesn't throw those balls against better teams, that's a fair assumption.

My problem do the passing game is the same after the byu game...very few intermediate passes and nothing in the middle of the field.

You can't say it's game plan because as soon as Brennan came in he made those throws.

Maybe Etling just doesn't feel comfortable going to the middle of the field.

Fact is, we know very little about the offense at this point, because the competition has been lacking.

I can argue that sometimes, you need to have those type plays where your WR beats their DB.

He did have a few "on the $" deep balls too.

Part of Etling's problems on his deep balls are hesitating.

Etling doesn't anticipate his WR being open and he actually has to see him open before he throws it. (when you first think of this, it sounds like a smart move) This causes him to hesitate and the ball arrives later than it should allowing DBs to catch up (this is where the ball can be picked off, so in essence it's not as smart a move as one thinks). Davis should have never broken stride on that TD, but he had to slow down to wait on it

And we have a winner. He's just waiting a bit too late on his throws. If he threw when his WR first uncovers he would hit them in stride. Just a touch late makes the WR have to slow down and make a play on a contested throw.

That being said, you see this all the time in the NFL and you can go through a highlight reel of the times OBJ, Landry and Wright bailed out Mett.

The numbers looks good, but man did he get lucky on a decent number of deep throws. Our WRs had to fight to prevent the INT, let alone make the catch. This has happened in both games.

Has his deep ball improved? Yes. But those same throws are more than likely TOs when we start conference play.

There were only two balls that I recall were 50/50. One to 6'6 Stephen Sullivan who has a significant height advantage and should be able to handle that jumpball. The other to Chark, where it appears he did not want to overthrow him, and made sure he had a chance at the ball. Watch games all the time where receivers have to go up and win one on one. We have some of the most physically talented receivers in the country, and it's time that they start making some one on one plays. If they can't, then we won't get very far. Guys making a few tough catches and winning one on one occasionally, is what it will take at times to beat the better teams. Etling played well overall.

Sort of like Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady's WRs have to do?

Could you imagine playing 3 flies up with a 6'6" guy as 5'10"?

He's for the most part been dropping dimes for two games now. Several analysts have raved about him. Saying he's healthy, poised etc. so I'm gonna take their word over some nega tiger who says he's horrible even though he has been one of the best in the country in qb efficiency

You were proven right AFTER two national championship appearances, two SEC championships, and a crystal trophy. Yeah, a broken clock is eventually correct. Lol

I would complain if you hung me period. :)

Point taken though. I want to see short and intermediate passes worked on but am very happy with our progress.

Guys, they were playing the lighthouse for the blind. Have you ever been in a huddle? After halftime those receivers were hounding Etling to give them the deep ball.

Like most college qb's he is almost always a half late on his deep balls. He waits until the wr is open instead of throwing him open. Common issue with young qb's.

A good QB puts his receivers in positions to make plays. He has the confidence his teammate is going to use his athleticism to go up and get it. You ever watched Brees play? He plays without fear and leaves a couple of balls up for grabs every game. He's rewarded more often than not.

I have better things to worry about instead of things you can not control. Get a life and enjoy it as a sport with passion. The sun is going to rise and set every day.

He is ranked 30th in overall efficiency, but take a look at red zone efficiency
