He's Bo Bahnsen's annual sacrifice. Apparently, if compliance doesn't take one kid off the team each year the world will fall into a fiery hellscape with lava raining down incinerating all of humanity.

Apparently it depends on his report card.

I'm assuming this will be one of those nebulous suspensions where we're never really sure when it will end and then one Saturday he's on the field.

Probably academic and with it being academic, it's not something they can discuss due to some privacy rights, not sure what it falls under.
Sounds like one of those semester type deals.
Until LSU hires a coach that can cover up all the off field issues it will continue to happen with the current LSU compliance department.
On one hand, that's good that you have LSU self reporting and doing the right thing but on the other hand when other schools do whatever they want you are only hurting yourself.

The deal was for a scholarship he would participate as an athlete for LSU football AND maintain a certain level of performance in the classroom.

He didn't fulfill his part of the deal... specifically the part about classroom performance.

When he has a chance to prove he has corrected that, when next term grades come out (within a week of Aug 22nd??), then the deal is back in effect. If he performed.

If he doesn't perform, then the indefinite suspension continues on... indefinitely.

So there is a CHANCE he'll actually be back for Miami. Depends on several things actually.

They can’t discuss it no matter what the reason. It could be a hot piss test, he told O to go frick himself, or failing a class. It’s all speculation.

Yeah, in the past, having a stickler compliance department was certainly a positive. Any real issues that would come up would end up not being a big deal in large part to our self-reporting. Now, as the NCAA seems to have lost a lot of its teeth, I tend to lean more towards the "frick it" style attitude. Obviously if there is horrible, nefarious illegal activity going on with the program I'd hope they are forthcoming, but with recruiting violations, academic stuff, failing drug tests for weed... "frick it". Just win, baby.

I wish this were true. I doubt it very, very seriously.

This thread is much better if you imagine Jerry Seinfeld asking that question.

If it's academic, it points to a system failure at LSU. The coaching staff should have a list of 25-30 players who simply can't fail. Those players need to be given extra attention and they need to do everything possible to make sure these things don't just pop up.

I think it actually makes sense. Moscona actually hinted towards something like this the other day. He said he’s heard that there’s a chance he’s back before Miami.

You mean like having people check to see that they attend class; check with professors to see if they are performing in class, turning in assignments, and paying attention; having access to academic facilities and resources such as private tutors that do just about everything but take the test for them; you mean like that kind of "everything." Unless you are asking for them to just out and out cheat by either doing assignments for the players or putting pressure on professors to "give" grades, then I would say the coaches and staff do their part. At some point it is on the athlete to live up to the "student" part of their title and put in a little bit of effort.

So, the reports of this coming as a surprise to the staff weren't true?

Of course it's up to the athlete. But, a starting OL on an already thin OL who is an academic risk needs to be given all of the attention in the world. This simply can't happen unless the athlete just refuses to do the work.

It just can't happen. And, it needs to be buttoned up at LSU.

Last week, Buddy Sony alluded to a violent act purported to have happened way back in high school (against a female). Take it for what it's worth, and, remember his tweet regarding the matter.
