We obviously lost some key pieces in this offseason but brought in some transfers. Our D line is looking scary good right now but the secondary is pretty much an unknown.

Who do you guys think will be our starting corners and safeties?

Who do you think might be a breakout player this year in the secondary?

Very little depth at CB and some highly ranked players with a lot to prove at safety.

It is the second weakest position group on the team behind TE

Has the potential to be very good but there are many unanswered questions at this point. I think the Florida State game will answer many of those.

We have the potential to be the best secondary in the SEC. Top 3 corners Garner Converse and Banks will be drafted.

Safety’s have plenty of questions but Fouche could be all conference. That just leaves a question of will our depth be coached up and do they play on a high level if called upon. I think they surprise.

A lot of unknown and it’s the position that makes me most nervous this year.

I hope our DL is as good as everyone expects because the secondary is going to need the help.

Not much depth. We have to hope for superior DL play for them to be excellent.

They aren’t DBU and haven’t been since 2019

I hope you are right but this secondary is so unproven and I know people are high on Converse but he has not faced SEC WRs.

LSU lacks elite talent in the secondary. Lots of good players, though.

Don't know if I'd agree it lacks depth. The better answer to this is too many unknowns similar to safety. Both are in the same position only CB has more questions. Can garner/converse convert their play to the SEC? Is banks going to live up to his high ceiling potential? Does Brooks take the next step in SEC? Is Welch going to develop fast for what looked like an underrated player coming in(should've been a 5*)? Will Raydar Jones finally develop into the player we thought he would be?

S you have Ward/Foucha who have proven themselves in SEC play so you should be solid as long as no injuries happen. Don't know enough about Burns yet but he showed some potential at least. Everyone behind them so far hasn't shown any development, no experience, and didn't look good in spring so tons of questions there. TE, S, CB are all the biggest question marks on the team right now.

This is why Vegas had LSU as a little over 5 wins on the betting line because across the board LSU has too many question marks and it's very rare for a team to put them all together when you have as many as LSU does.

Let’s start with the positives as compared to last season when considering depth and talent at each position to start the season:
DLine +
WR+

Now the push
RBs
QBs

Now the less talent and overall depth
DBs -
LBs -
Oline -

Coaching +

Here is the main issue. You’re playing against teams that have most of the same players AND COACHING staff. They are starting at a much better position. Hell, LSU is still learning to practice.

Hence 7-5 to 8-4 season.

Banks has a high draft ceiling and Garner does too based on his mammoth size and physicality for a big arse CB. I've seen some mocks with him on high round picks that could go up if he plays good in SEC. Converse limitation is size so I'm not sure he'll ever have high draft ceiling potential but he's arguably one of the better performing NCAA CBs that shouldn't be a huge problem in SEC. Can't say for sure though, obviously. Clearly LSU scouting thought he can play in SEC and that's probably why those 3 transferred because it's an opportunity to make their stock sky rocket.

Good at safety. Ok at Cornerback if everyone stays healthy and remember this name WELCH. I think he is the next star at cb.
