The defense, of course, intrigues me because I just don't know how good it will be. I believe the defensive line should be very solid. I also believe we have good linebacker talent with sufficient depth to be very good there. The cornerback corp should be one of the best in the country and I think we will have a solid safety corps, that will get better and better as the season chugs along.
Overall, if we can get those communication break downs that plagued us all last season eliminated, which I think we will because we have a whole new coaching staff, then LSU's defense should be back up to speed.
On offense, I'm going to guess that the offensive line will be better overall than it was in 2020. I'm also guessing that the depth of the offensive line will steadily improve throughout the season as the young guys learn their techniques and their plays.
I'm also looking for Emery and Davis-Price as juniors to both make cases to go to the NFL after 2022, and if they can't do it, then I'm looking for those incoming freshman running backs to pick up their slack.
I also think the passing game will also be very solid, especially if Arik Gilbert gets to comeback and start. I know Boutte will be one of the best receivers in the SEC and I believe LSU will find a host of other wide outs to fill the other spots. In fact, the receiving corp should steadily improve as the season goes on.
As far as QB goes, it probably won't make much difference of who wins the starting job. As both potential starters have their advantages and disadvantages. I don't consider the QB position to be an area of concern going into 2021.
I'm going to guess that LSU will be back to being in the top ten, although I'm a little hesitant to say that because of how bad the defense was last season. But I think now that Pelini is gone the problem has probably already been eliminated.
I mean overall, we have a pretty talented team.

Will we actually see Kardell Thomas in action, as the highly touted recruit he was?

Nobody knows but after re-watching the spring game, he didn't do that bad. The thing that set him back was he missed his true freshman season because of that injury he suffered.
Thomas Perry did to due to an injury he also suffered. So both of those two guys are somewhat behind because of their injuries.
Nonetheless, I think both of them will make a lot of progress during the course of the season. For the sake of 2022, I hope they do.

what intrigues me is whether the offense will pick up where it left off and under which QB and if Emery will get significant p t
what causes concern is whether or not the problem of unguarded receivers running free beyond the secondary has been resolved

Wow! That’s a terrible class. The bottom half is better than the top half.

Just how good will they be this year has me intrigued.
As far as anxiety I have NONE! The "wokeness" of LSU fixed me of caring that much anymore. I want them to win but if they don't oh well life moves on..

It's actually a pretty solid class
Too bad several transferred or are no longer playing
There would be a spot on this year's team for Ika, Brooks, and Hampton
Parish would get lost with the glut of QB talent

Intriguing = Peet’s play calling
Anxiety = OL & LB performance

I think overall we’ll be much better with qb depth like we haven’t had in 15 years
Im still worried about how well we’ll run the ball but I like that the OL came back after a strong finish over the last 3 games

Not playing for us matters when evaluating the class. At this point, this class should be the backbone of this year's team, and offensively, it's not contributing a lot. This year's team really needs Emery and Palmer to break out. Hopefully, it will happen.

O-line has me drinking heavily!

Intrigued by the D-line. Anxious for the O-line
Posted on 5/3/21 at 10:36 am to TrueTigerTale
Defense definitely intrigues me the most. Honestly believe we will have one of the best Dlines in CF, not really worried about our secondary (believe the staff hires on that side of the ball Blake is a proven commodity), and I’m a fan of our DC hire. He’s versatile in scheme just need to see what playcall will look like.
Anxiety is offensive line, running backs, and wide receivers. Is bad enough to have no depth at O-Line, even worse to then have a lackluster starting line. Qb pressures concern me the most (if the spring game is any indicator, the group might give up a few too many sacks). Secondly, we still have no running back that is indeed a threat both in the run game and passing game (although o-line seemed to block effectively). Last we just need a few more receivers to step up to spread the field in the passing game.
