I would think (and hope) that with the connections Kiffin has with the LSU side that he wouldn’t screw us by stringing along or agreeing then backing out.
I do sound naive though.
That's an interesting point that I haven't thought of. I think Ed O would be real with him and insist that if he's going to talk to LSU, he can't string us along. I think he'd listen to O, too.

Why do you think he’d listen to O? He knows O is an idiot. Remember when O implied Kiffin was gonna be his OC? How did that turn out

I wouldn’t hold too much weight to what GOV. Landry is doing. I am told this is not going to drive anyone away from taking the LSU job.
How in the hell does anyone know this isn't hurting?!?

I think it does and it doesn't. While Landry makes himself and LSU look like incompetent morons, it is widely known that LSU and Louisiana politics have always meshed dating back to Huey Long, so this isn't news.
The new coach (especially if it is Kiffin) is going to be greeted like a knight on a white horse coming into town, and he will already be more popular than Landry. If they are successful here, they will wield more power than the governor's office.
I think if it is Kiffin, they are going to give him the reigns and let him do his thing, which I think he is going to ask for anyway if he is serious about coming here.
Outside of the search, what power does the governor really have after the coach has been hired? He doesn't own the team. He may go to a couple of practices, but he isn't forcing the coach to hire certain coaches, run a certain scheme or call certain plays.
Also, Landry is up for reelection two years after the hire, so he may or may not even be the governor for a large portion of the new coach's contract.

Why would Kiffin trade $9M/year (possibly more now) and no real pressure to win championships in return for less money and pressure to get to the playoff every single year?

The big problem will be if he makes the playoffs. If he does, would he still want to leave and how would the early signing day play out without a commitment/signed coach

According to Saban Kiffen has some deep pockets at Ole Miss that give him what he wants. Why would Kiffen want to leave? He’s go a good thing going and the team he produced this year proves it.

Really going to get that old rivalry spooled up good. Saban at Bama created a rivalry that surpassed Auburn, OM, and the hate for aTm.
This will do the same thing if Lane bolts to LSU. That would be worse than what Saban did, especially if they make a run in the playoffs.

If you aren't willing to leave your team in December, let's move on.
oddly enough, an LSU grad I know, said he never liked Kelly because he Left ND in a playoff run that year
I think they finished 5th in the country
"I came to LSU to win championships"...but he had ND right there
so leaving early might be a sign of bad character
finish what you started is going to bear the most fruit!!!!!!!
patience pays off

Every time I say this the 12yr emotional teen girls on here that can’t think for themselves and bleed all over the place about Landry just cry about it and talk about how this is going to hurt our chances to get a coach sooooooooo bad lol

Not sure. But I know it shouldn’t be him.
Kiffin is young BK with a flashy offense to distract

You’re HIGH. He’s not saying no to LSU to stay at that stepping stone, Clown.

based on Laundry's comments on Moscona's show a few minutes ago there will be no big contract so not sure how Kiffen happens.
