Alabama Football is still Alabama Football, Duke Basketball is still Duke Basketball, but LSU Baseball isn't LSU Baseball because the level of competition is much greater than when Skip coached??

In the nuclear arms race of NCAA sports, MSU and LSU baseball developed the bomb early. Now lots of teams have developed the bomb.

It was the right move, and Poche was straight cruising until he mentally self destructed.

If you don't like watching your favorite players fail to hit the ball 7 out of 10 times and lose half of their games, baseball isn't for you.

Ready for some baseball.

Totally agree. It was a good move that didn't work out, which is too often mistaken for a bad move, especially in hindsight. You have to win both of the first two in Omaha to gain any advantage, which the "start your ace first" people tend to forget.

Every program goes through cycles. LSU is not immune to it.

This is true, without a doubt, and it is not like this year has been a total bust. I figured we'd be about .500 in SEC play. However, I do wonder what happened to our pitching staff that was supposed to be our strength.

LSU. Truly a place where expectations go to die.

I have two questions...

Was your son a JUCO commit or did he sign with LSU straight out of HS?

How much did you expect him to be playing at this point in his career???

ETA: I think it's great your husband lets you use your iPad in the kitchen, hope the wifi strength is good enough for you

You know how success of this program is determined and why thats the case. No reason to run from it.

Not hard to understand, but we haven't made a seious run since'09, & we're not making one this year for sure, the way Mainieri talks nobody will show up from this year's Signing Class, because all will sign, he needs to make another run at Omaha for the salary he makes

The tard is strong here. We are the only team in the nation to be a national seed each of the last 4 years. We've been making runs, every season.

We need some more success in Omaha, but that is literally the only complaint one could have.

If only you had a clue, but you don't so get over yourself
I only complain about baseball because that is the only sport I care about. Don't watch any of the others

yup

it's easier to maintain a powerhouse in football and basketball.. but not baseball.

basketball you get the best of the best and you can see the impact. it's only 5 guys out there at a time.. the influence of impacting talent is tremendous.. even if it's a couple of guys.

football you get a majority of the best and even if you miss on some.. you still overwhelmingly have more talent than typically the competition. there's so many players here, lots of room for depth along with talent.

baseball is harder to maintain like those. often the adjustment is more difficult.. players can be off and on.. you have to line up the right amount of veteran players with the talent or have them gel at the right spots. any type of amount of talent difference can be completely nullified by one opposing pitcher being on his game.. you could have a team like a Grambling give a powerhouse baseball team like LSU a fit, all because one pitcher could be on is game.. when in any other sport.. a powerhouse program should have no issue ever taking care of an inferior team.. from a depth and talent standpoint.

it makes what LSU did in the 90's all the more impressive.

baseball just one of those games.. you could be a beast one day, and completely cold the next. pitching is huge though. we obviously don't have the depth we should have here. Latz being hurt has been a big miss so far. really were counting on him in the recruiting cycle a couple years ago.

this team, for even being young, could still turn it on and get hot late and make a run..

Pitching has been hot and cold. I thought too that Lange and Poche would be dealing this year. Not sure what is going to happen next season on the mound.

If Poche bolts, then who, besides Lange, is going to carry the water ? Hitting will be improved no doubt next season, but what about pitching ? This year is a free pass for PM. Next year, some young men need to step up and focus.
