Neither was Eyanson last preseason. Look how he turned out.

How about just turn your tv to Disney+ and stop watching LSU baseball now. I really don’t want to deal with another year of clueless knee jerk reacting fans. Y’all say this shite about a pitcher every year and every year you look like a dumbass because they prove you wrong. At some point you gotta learn to just have some patience and let it play out for a little while.

There are adjustments to be made to go from reliever to starter. In these early season games you can give up 4-5 runs because the Tigers will average over 10 runs a game before conference starts. He has the stuff to get it done just has to figure out how to be a starter. You can’t pitch 6 innings with the same intensity as you do as a reliever.

All of you laughing people probably weren't paying attention to the fact that he struggled for most of the off-season. Until he proves he can lock it back in, I'm going to be concerned about him. He wouldn't be the first guy to look electric as a freshman, then struggle in a new role as a sophomore. He has time, but this team really needs him to figure it out. There's a lot of good pitchers on the team, but somebody needs to be an ace. Tough to go far without at least one of those.
Even going back to last year, his command was never great. He didn't walk a lot of guys, but he was in and out of the zone a lot, but managed to lock in when he needed to, and sometimes got some help with guys chasing balls that weren't close. He very much gave me the impression that he'd struggle to consistently get deep into games as a starter if he didn't improve his command. That seemed to regress in the scrimmages. I don't want to see a Thatcher Hurd type of situation evolve.
No I'm not panicked. This is called an observation, that involves way more than just one game. Feels like he's either gonna let this snowball, or it's just going to click all at once and he'll be dominant. I don't anticipate much in between.

he wasnt great in the fall or spring though. he should be fine in the long run but he wasnt great this past off season
Fair point, I too saw some of those fall/spring stat lines. You always hear teams make great strides between their first and second games. I believe the same can be said about starting pitchers. He and Yeskie will make some adjustments.

Game 1 of the season and it has already started.

He pitched well. He just ran into trouble in the fourth because he hit a batter (on the foot), then three straight guys got singles. It was just some bad luck that got his inning pitch count high, so CJJ pulled him. I doubt he gets pulled in that situation later in the year.

What makes y’all think he’s a bonafide Friday starter? I just don’t see it and I never saw it last year.
Jay thinks so.

Do you know the difference between an observation and a melt? Every year, I watch people melt about things they don't understand, while I just try to make objection observations and lay out what I see, and people, early in the season, always tell me I'm melting, only for my opinions to be proven valid about 70% of the time.
But this isn't even a particularly hot take. Casan has a ways to go to improve his command, not just control. No one is saying he won't get there. Certainly not me. But some of you struggle to hear things you don't want to hear, without having a fit over it, instead of just taking it for what it is. An early observation.

What were you looking from him last year?
Dude literally saved the season by shutting down Little Rock for 5+ innings in the winner take all game. He entered that game when we were down 5-1.
Because of Evans, this board went from "Fire JJ" to "JJ could be better than Skip"

I’m laughing at you because you act like you know more than Jay Johnson, lol. Chase Shores looked awful at the beginning of last year. He gradually improved and was huge down the stretch. Casan helped us win a national title last year. Chill out and enjoy being a fan. Give the benefit of the doubt to the best college baseball coach in the country.

I 100% stand by my statement.

I didn't see last weeks game but judging by tonite he doesn't look like the same pitcher as last year. He's going way too deep in the count to this team

Not a Friday night starter.
