What ever happened to standing on the 10 yd line letting the punt go over your head?

Why the hell does Chark fair catch it at the 5 yd line. Can't we let it bounce and take our chances at that point? Seems like 15 yards of upside and only 4 yards of downside.

Is that what ST coaches are paid $ for?

If the punt is straight up and the defense is already standing there you catch it

we have no special teams coaches currently. All of the coaches pitch in with a shadow staff member. You are right however.

Why though? even if the ball is coming straight down, when it hits it is unpredictable. The chances of downing a ball inside the five when it lands inside the five seems less than 50-50.

Need a ST coach because Chark should have let those go and he should have come up and fielded the punt that he let hit the ground around the 30yd line too.

I'm ok with giving up 2 yards when there is a 50/50 or better chance of gaining 15.

Just because you think it's 50/50 doesn't mean it actually is.

I think it's better than 50/50. If the ball is coming in at an angle and is caught at the 5, that means it hits at the 4. It's hard as hell to guess where a punt is going to bounce and stop it in 12 feet.

If the ball is coming straight down then it could bounce forward or backward. If it bounces backwards, LSU gains field position. If it bounces forwards, Someone has to be in the right place and it has to take a good hop to stop it in 15 feet.

Either way, It's better not to catch it.

Their punter is probably the best in the nation and puts the ball high in the air. He gunners have ample time to get down the field to down the punt. They usually are standing there waiting on the punt to fall from the sky.

On all of Scott's punts on Saturday he had enough height to prevent Chark from returning and giving his gunners time to get down and field it. If Chark moves out of the way to let it bounce, Bama would have enough time to catch it themselves. I guess you could still move out of the way and hope they screw it up somehow but chances of that are slim.

So let them catch it. Same field position and no chance of a muff.

I’m just tired of letting the ball hit the field at the 25 and letting it roll to the 10. Those dead yards are killers when you play a good defense.

As high as he kicks em we would have been backed up to the one or two yard line. Your lucky to get it at the 10. That cat is a game changer. If we start on 30-40 yard line some maybe we score a few times. And make it a game in the 4th.

chark struggles in the open field when the ball isn't in his hands.

He should have gone and grabbed one that he didn't and shouldn't have fielded a couple.

Fast gunners. If you don’t field it the gunners catch it and stop it on the 1/2 yard line.
Just last year everyone was whining that DJ let to many balls go by that got grounded close to the goal.

It’s almost universal to coach guys to let a kick go if it’s over head height at the 10 yard line, and that’s been coached since before I was a kid a long long time ago.
