Like what Petersen Big Ben and others say about draft vs college. They go to SEC school better travel dietary and strength programs than minors. For every Holliday( who sent to Minors and word is had hard time adjusting to MLB ). With NIL they not broke etc and like Crews Tanks and many many others improved thru college expierence….No way Skenes becomes stud if he doesn’t transfer to LSU

Skenes was great. The difference between the SEC and the rest, particularly the west coast conferences, is you better have at least your B+ stuff every outing, or you will get knocked around. At most west coast schools, a Skenes could have his C stuff and still toss a shutout.

Holliday isn’t the guy to use to make your point. No one is turning down that type of money. The third and fourth round guys are the ones who may have to choose of a good NIL is offered.

That's because he was 18 facing 25-30 year olds. Struggling to adjust at that age is expected. The difference is he signed a $8+ million dollar signing bonus rather than $100k a year to play in college. It's not financially smart to pass up a 1st round signing bonus to go play college ball.

Skenes was not even close to the level he was here at AF. HE definitely had good stats, but the difference is absolutely huge

2022 AF
85.2 IP, 70 H, 96 K, 30 BB, 1.17 WHIP, 2.71 ERA

2023 LSU
122.2 IP, 72 H, 209 K, 20 BB, 0.75 WHIP, 1.69 ERA

His stuff also improved quite a bit from AF to here. More velocity on his fastball, even better breaking stuff...I mean it's in the numbers right above there. The dud threw nearly 30 more innings here and allowed 2 more hits, 10 less walks and had more than twice the amount of strikeouts playing SUBSTANITALLY tougher competition overall.

He was not considered a 1/1 pick before coming here. Certainly very good, but the difference is staggering when you look at it.

If you aren’t being offered at least a million dollars out of high school, going the college route makes more sense, but delayed gratification isn’t exactly American 18 year olds strength.

He was a two time first team all american at AF. Not to mention he put up those stats at AF while hitting every game

He actually pitched 37 more innings here, not “nearly 30 more innings.”
