People keep saying why did we fire Miles to get just get the same results, inferring that they would have rather just kept Miles, who had become an 8-9 win/year coach with some glaring weaknesses.
Les miles finished is career with winning more than 10 games a season. Where does this, he was an 8 win coach come from?

I liked Les- but Les wasn't a 10+ win coach when LSU hired him, if we want to be fair....

No, but he had a record of success, unlike the current coach, if we want to be fair.

What did he get fired for?
No longer having us competing to win the SEC on a regular basis and posing a real danger of losing the team completely after the Auburn debacle. Do you not remember how the team basically folded up shop at the end of 2015? Here's a refresher...30-16 loss to Alabama (it was 30-10 before a fourth quarter TD), 31-14 loss at home to Arkansas followed by a 38-17 loss to Ole Miss. After he saved his job, he promised to innovate the offense, yet decided to keep Cam Cameron and trot out the exact same product the next year, resulting in a bad loss to Wisconsin and an awful loss to Auburn, where Miles' number one flaw, clock management, reared it's ugly head one final time.

Has Ed improved on that?

Why no, I'm not. How did I take your quote out of context, a-hole?
I was responding to someone who said Orgeron needed to win like Miles did. Miles had become an 8-9 win coach. Orgeron is currently an 8-9 win coach, so Orgeron should have had that guy's respect already.

I'm a pretty rational guy, myself. At least that's what people who really know me tell me.
One of the things I try to do is keep what's supposed to be fun....fun. This is how I view LSU Football- and always will.
I've lived through the very best of it- and the very worst. I think I'm qualified to know the difference between the two- and do not believe we are even CLOSE to the latter. I do realize some here have never known failure concerning LSU Football- and that's a wonderful thing. Hope it continues for many years to come.
One thing is for sure- none of us are in control of what happens. May as well enjoy the journey.
I can appreciate this point of view and agree with it 100%.

You're saying this crowd would have been satisfied replacing Les with a coach who went 28-21 as a HC in the Big 12? We'll have to disagree on that, too....
I think we can all remember the 'he's winning with Saban's players' bit. This is par for the course.

Which completely ignores the context of his “successful year”, which is something that I was pointing out.

That’s not what I was saying at all.

I don’t think this is true.

No no no. Les’ floor at LSU was 8-9 wins. O’s ceiling his entire career was ONE 9 win season with a loss to Troy, getting blown out by State, and losing to a mediocre ND team in the bowl.

Hell, I want us to be back on top, too- badly. I know the last 15 years is a very hard act to follow- I hope like hell the current guy is up for it. If it's proven that he's not, rest assured changes will be made. I just don't think things are at that point....As wonderful as Les was, Les was also a hard-headed man. I believe his approach to the offense wasn't going to change- ever. That's something I still stratch my head over.
Even with Steve E, our approach to the offense is already more dynamic that it was ever going to be, under Les. At the very least, O has made that effort. I'm interested in seeing what happens- and if his trust in Ensminger translates into not meddling with things and seeing what can be achieved. We haven't seen this in a while. I'm excited about THAT.

This is also why some of us are still pessimistic.

“successful year”
I guess I just don't live in the past for that long. Miles last successful year was 2012. By the end 2015, he had become a good dude and an average coach. His overall record at LSU was great, but by the time he was fired, he was an 8-9 win coach.

By the time he got fired, sure. That’s WHY he got fired. So, consistent 8-9 win seasons from Orgeron should get him fired too.
And Alleva should be fired THIS season if it’s fewer than 10 wins.
Edit: scratch that. Alleva should be fired NOW, regardless of the outcome.

Meh. He hasn’t coordinated a game yet.

Miles would have had a 10 win season in 2015, but for the cancelled cupcake game.
