I've seen all the teams AFTER the Pistol, and the 1981 Final Four team is the best. For several years, LSU lost to the eventual national champions.
The most fun to watch and gutsiest was the #11 seed 1986 team that battled its way to the Final Four in Dallas and was leading eventual champ Louisville at the half.
The most disappointing, not surprisingly, is the Chris/Shaq/Stanley team.
Chris Jackson is the best player I've ever seen at LSU.

Beats me. I don’t think about basketball enough to have an opinion at any time of the year, much less on the cusp of football.

1981, though Shaq does makes any argument debatable

but still think the 2006 team was the best ever..
no one saw the 2006 team coming especially the emergence of Tyrus Thomas and the other freshmen
1981 was a known quantity, everyone knew what they faced with Macklin, the Cookie Monster,Ethan Martin as well as Willie Sims,Leonard "Swat" Mitchell and the leading scorer HiC Carter....if Dwayne Scales would have stayed they probably don't lose a game, because when Scales was on, the Tigers were open for business.

1981. Should have won it all that year

1980-81 - Ethan Martin, Howard Carter, Rudy Macklin, Leonard Mitchell, Willis Sims. Carter, Macklin, and Martin were on the all-century team.

Macklin didn’t play that year due to a broken foot
