Lots of veterans on the field and on the pitching staff. Slaughter and Smith will get PT for sure. Two really good Freshman. Pitching staff is deep, but we still need to find a solid 3. Romero vs Pap Part 2. Deichmann to the OF. Adams or Tempet at 1B now. Canni gone at a bad time to a conference rival and Gibbs/Ochinko taking over.

Thoughts?

I've been looking at this year as our next big Omaha opportunity ever since our last one in 2015, and it sure looks to be shaping up that way, with everyone who's coming back making a very solid roster. Canni is a big loss though, hopefully Gibbs is up to the challenge. We'll also have to go through another year with Cain on 3rd base

We all said after Bregman left that 2017 would be the next year. We all thought we'd have the staff... Godfrey, Lange, Latz and the veterans on the field.

We ended up overperforming at the end of last year. Sucks that we couldn't beat CC at home.

But yes... the cliche. "This is the year". Even though we don't have the pitchers we'd thought we'd have, we still have a solid, veteran group. And we have some really talented defensive guys but need to find consistency at the plate outside of Freeman and KRob.

I'll be in Houston this year and making as many games as possible as usual. Should be fun.

This is potentially a CWS winning collection of talent.

Not making the CWS would be a disappointment to me.

Two proven weekend starters and at least two viable options in the incoming recruiting class for that third spot. A lot of veteran bullpen pieces coming back plus a couple exciting pieces like Kiel.

And a lot of guys that can rake. We have a ton of speed too, but I can still imagine us having our fair share TOOTBLANs.

I really wish Cannizaro would have been here this year. Would have been a big boost. My confidence in new staff is low

They did, it was their first national championship in any sport.

Why did we settle on a hitting coach?
Huge drop off from Andy.
Par for the course for Alleva.

I don't think another top 8 seed is too unreasonable to "expect". I honestly don't know how strong the SEC is this year as compared to other years

National Title or bust. Just like 2015 and 2013.

Omaha is a wildcard, you have to change the way you play once you get there.
Omaha or bust for this team.
Only weakness I see is lefty out of the bullpen but maybe Poche could fill that role if needed in regionals or Omaha.
I think they have enough from the new pitchers to add to an already solid staff.
Jury out on Gibbs but Godwin praised him and PM rarely misses on assistant hires.

Without being sure of what the rest of the SEC has returning, I think anything short of being a top 8 national seed and winning at least 1-2 games in Omaha would be considered a failure with what we have coming back.

If we make it to Omaha, I would have to guess 0-2 BBQ.
