For me it was his ability to run through tackles. I always knew he was fast and agile but he showed much more power than I thought he had.

Runner up would be his ability to get skinny and squeeze through holes that are barely there.

Edit: he reminds me a lot of Alvin Kamara. They both look almost effortless running and have the ability to put on the jets and turn the corner. HE also showed the Kamara ability to have defenders just bounce off of him despite having a relatively clean shot at him. No, I am not syaing he is as good, just that they have similar running styles.

He is definitely explosive. Has more home run ability than our other backs for sure. I was impressed with him catching the ball out of the backfield, and pass blocking seemed improved.

The commentary team touched on it several times through the broadcast. His ability to get skinny through a non-existent hole for a big gain is impressive.

His after contact yardage

quote:

John Emery had 59 of 103 yards after contact Saturday.

Averaged 4.9 yard per carry AFTER contact.

Emery had 12 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown

He earned the starting role moving forward. TDP and him can make a nice thunder/lightning combo. Curry to finish teams off if need be towards end of games.

his ability outside the tackles. So many RB's that run out of the shotgun do not and will not adjust their paths to the outside

vision

Curry and Price are not as shifty and to be a RB in this offense you have to make someone miss and Emery can do that similar to edwards helaire

Decisiveness. He picks his hole and then blasts through it with bad intent.

I’ve said he reminds me of Guice, but Kamara may be a better comp. I don’t think he has quite the “wiggle” that Guice had. But I can see similarities with Guice and Kamara.

Then the dumbass coaches kept running him even though he was clearly compromised.

Yep I think he got the message from the team and coach. You don't do you job and help others by blocking when u don't have the ball you ain't playing. He stood strong in there despite getting over powers a bit throwing blocks. He is strong then last year and leaving it out there that's all u can ask.

Super excited going forward hope he continues to improve and keeps pushing himself he will get everything he ever wanted if he keeps pushing himself

Pass blocking is GREATLY improved. Didn’t seem to shy away from sacrificing his body for block. Showing great vision in letting blocks develop and hitting the hole when it opens up (giggity). Overall, greatly improved from last year. I think by the Florida game he will be a game changer.

His high step move on the sideline that bought him 5-7 extra yards. Most backs would have been pushed out of bounds or tried to run over the tackler, but the guy he high stepped on couldn’t even force him out.

He kind of reminds me of Reggie Bush. Not in his shiftiness, but in his tendency to exercise strength via finesse. Bush was a strong back, not just a gimmick guy. That said, he preferred finesse and knew how to use his strength to compliment that.
